Which years GPA matters?

is it only sophomore and junior, as long as you passed your freshman classes?

Sophomore and junior years will be included in the UC GPA, and as long as you didn’t flunk freshman year it should be fine (if you didn’t do well it would be good to show improvement obviously). Make sure to not fail any classes senior year and to not slack off or take too light of a courseload, even if senior year grades aren’t looked at.

also how important are SAT scores to ucla?

Well of course they are important along with GPA but it’s possible to get a 1600 and be accepted or get a 2300 and be rejected (although the odds are low). Point is, UCLA will look at your whole application, so if you are strong in other areas like high grades/extracurriculars/essays or have special circumstances, that could partially make up for a low SAT score.

If you look here you can see the ranges for the past class: [Profile of Admitted Freshmen, Fall 2012 - UCLA Undergraduate Admissions](http://www.admissions.ucla.edu/Prospect/Adm_fr/Frosh_Prof12.htm)
I’d say aim for at least a 2000 but if you don’t get that it’s not the end of the world and there are a ton of things that admissions can look at so it’s in your best interest to be as well rounded as possible while doing the best you can with grades and standardized tests.
