I got mine at Jessica McClintock (I think). ^ Yes, MidwestMom2Kids_, some schools have girls walking across the stage in white dresses. I went to an all girls private school and that was the tradition there.

You might find something at a thrift shop if you SWEAR not to tell anybody that’s where you found it. “It’s vintage,” is what my daughter says if pressed about such a garment.

This is adorable, but my daughter probably wouldn’t like it:

This one by Shoshanna she might wear - a little younger and more fun:

Yep- DD wears white dress, boys wear a suit with a tie in school color.

I’m sure it is lovely. There are universities (the ones I know about are in the south) that have the women in white dresses and roses and the men in white jackets and dark pants.

(Would never have worked for our very diverse public high school, however!)

I remember when I went to David’s Bridal looking for a white dress for my sorority initiation, we went there because it was so hard to find an all white dress anywhere else. It had to be completely white, no decorations, no beading etc. and it was so funny they just assumed I was getting married and they kept asking me how many bridesmaids I was having and such. It can be really hard finding a white dress and convincing people you aren’t getting married!

I really like that last dress I posted…I don’t think I could get away with it at my age though!

The DVF dress is over $400, and the Shoshanna dress over $300!

If I had girls they would definitely need to get full rides to college!

That dress I posted and would like to talk myself into was $138. :)

But I think there will be some fabulous choices at resale shops. It is that old choice: time or money.

Thanks everyone, for the GREAT suggestions! I wish we could alter the expensive Lily Pulitzer dress that a friend gave us, but unfortunately they want it back. We have a David’s Bridal nearby, that will be our first stop.

It was an entertaining exercise, baystate! Best to you and your daughter.

We wear white dresses(boy wear white suits) on our last day of school

Where do you get those dresses, Louise? And…where do young men find white suits, I wonder.

The get the suits from a local tailor. He orders them every year because he knows of the demand.

Most girls get their dresses from White House Black Market, Sears, J. Crew, or alot make them themselves

For the black dress, maybe the dresses choirs wear could work. For instance [Custom Show Choir Apparel, Custom Concert Apparel, Sweet Adelines Chorus Apparel, Barbershop Quartet Apparel - Rivar’s Inc](http://www.rivars.com/catalogs/2009/concert/index.php) has quite a few and some fo them are even machine wash and less than $100

Also Tote Unlimited; has short balck dresses

Zappos sells dresses and lets you sort by color. Free shipping and very easy, free returns! Trust me, if you try them, you will get hooked on their impeccable service.

I just want to say good luck with the white dress. It IS possible. D graduated two years ago and we searched for many weeks. She can be difficult to fit and wanted to try on, so we finally went with the strategy of buying one that was OK, then when we found one we liked better we returned the previous one. We went through several dresses. I find myself stopping in my tracks STILL each time I see a white dress!

Is this for convocation at MHC?
