White female in engineering

I applied ED and I was just curious if it really is as much of an advantage as I’ve heard…

Its a BIG advantage but I mean if your not qualified you won’t get in, but hey i’d just be happy with any advantage I have

really? according to whom? Please cite a source before you make obnoxious declarative statements that have no grounding and are likely untrue. It is hardly an advantage if even that. Columbia seas gets its fair share of diverse driven applicants, we’re not a stereotypical engineering school.

Keep in mind that at least one former Ivy League admissions officer has stated that approximately 40% of each class consists of recruited athletes, legacies, URMs and development admits. Many of these gain their admissions boost in the ED process (athletes and legacies in particular). Columbia admits 40+% of its class through ED. I suspect there is very little, if any, “advantage” in the ED round for non-athletes and non-legacies.
