White House Internship

statistically, applicants have been finding out the week after Thanksgiving. With Turkey Day coming up… it wont be too long now :).

I’ll bring prosecco and chocolate cake :P

Hey everyone! I just applied to the summer 2012 program, I am new to this sight so it would be cool to interact with other students are who are going through a similar situation. I have had the date November 14 saved on my calender for over a month so it gave me time to have everything ready and submitted when the application became available. Now it is my turn to play the waiting game. I truly hope we all receive this amazing opportunity.

“Now it is my turn to play the waiting game.”

But we’re still playing the waiting game, silly! Most of the spring folks still haven’t heard anything yet! Welcome to the forum, though haha :)

Fingers crossed everyone…maybe this week…toes crossed, too!

Analytical - Im actually taking time off school, finishing up an internship.

Dangerkader - Honestly, if I were you, I would forget I applied for the internship and start thinking about it again come March. Because at this rate, you are in for some terribly long weeks ahead of you. Best of luck.

@iskander cool! Hopefully we get to swap stories this spring!

@dangerkader, I completely agree with iskander. I am sure you have a great application package but make sure to apply to other opportunities as well. I think most of us on here did that although the WH internship is our first choice. You probably won’t hear anything until at least a month after the application deadline. For now just read over this thread so you can have an idea as to how the process works. Best of luck!

@Amplifier842- I am with you in hoping that this week is the week. I was hoping our earlier application deadline (and notification date) might lead to an earlier decisions process, alas that has not occurred. But I hope we hear by Wednesday (cause Thursday is a Federal Holiday, and Friday is not a holiday, but I would expect very few people in any office to come in.

I understand its going to be a rigorous journey, and I do have some other internships lined up but a girl can dream can’t she? lol.

Stared at the email from the White House entitled “Thank you for applying” for like an hour. The ‘thank you for applying’ phrase is never a good one.

"Dear Applicant,

Thank you for applying to the Spring 2012 White House Internship Program. We regret to inform you that…" and you know the rest of the song by now. It’s the same email Wh2360 received.

quite frankly I’m distraught but I’m still going to echo wh2360’s words which I thought were really uplifting: “It’s ok. These things happen. It was an honor to be considered for the position in the first place.”
best of luck to all of you.

I had a second interview with the same dept today…so I’m not sure about the timeline…

@iskander sorry to hear that. I wish you all the best and reccomend you apply again. I am sure you are meant to do great things!

@9hope18 how did your 2nd interview go? If you don´t mind sharing how was it different from the first interview?

It seems like we still have quite a way to go…

I am sorry to hear that as well. I am sure you are destined to do great things, never give up!! Wish you all the best of luck!

@iskander: absolutely apply again. Very sorry to hear it…and I hope that even if it’s not through a White House internship, we all get to meet you someday anyway! Best of luck to you with your future plans and keep us posted :)

The way I see it, there is no pattern. For all those considering applying, apply. However, in my opinion, the best way to approach this very specific application is by using the “apply and forget” state of mind. Also, always have atleast a back up plan and a safety to that back up plan, as in apply to multiple other internships for that time period or have other options on the table.
That’s my advice from my very humble opinion. Again, best of luck to all.

My back up takes me to Brussels for the spring. If anyone is around, do let me know.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone :)

Back at ya! Hope everyone has a delicious day!

Happy T-Day to everyone!

Just FYI: conditional acceptances were sent out earlier this week for the Spring 2012 session.

For those moving up to DC in the next three months, I would be happy to help if you have any questions about accommodation, public transport, or anything else about our nation’s capital, having spent extensive time there for other internships. PM me.

Happy Thanksgiving.

Do you think they’ve sent out all offers? Some of us still haven’t heard anything; yea or nay. I mean, some offices are still interviewing.

Yep, I had two interviews and a writing sample to do this week, so some offices may still be working on selecting interns. I can’t wait to hear back either way.
