Hey My name is Alfredo, I also applied for Spring 2012! The wait is killing me!! Anyone have any good info?

@amplifiar: im pretty sure they do, lol. they probably find all of our babblings amusing ;)

Hi Afredo! I would say look back at the last ten pages or so to catch yourself up to speed–I think you’ll be pleased with what you find in the way of individual progress in the application process. Basically, most people have gotten two processing emails, some have gotten confirmation of receipt of their materials, some have gotten the “vitals” email which requests confirmation of certain personal information, a few of us have had interviews in different offices, and one person has reported hearing back a decision last week. (And I know of another person who has heard back…unfortunately he didn’t get it either)

But yeah…we’re all chilling out here, anxiously too haha…so welcome to the club :)

@mrgrimm92 Ugh, I’m sure. Hahaha.

Hey Guys,
I’m Nala, I’ve been following this blog since this past summer but I just recently created an account. I will be applying to the summer session, I’m pretty nervous but I guess that’s just part of the process. I can’t imagine the anxiety of waiting but hang in there it is almost over. I want to wish you all good luck, sounds like a bright bunch.

Hey everyone,

I just created an account today after following this thread since early October. I applied for Spring 2012 and figured I’d might as well have some company during one of the longest, most excruciating waiting games of my life lol

I’m sure someone has taken a look at this thread. I remember when applying to college that I read an article about different college admissions officers browsing websites such as CC.

Diplomatiknupe and Alfredo - Welcome! In these type of situations I feel like the more the better. What offices did you apply for? Did you get any interviews?

Thanks for the welcome! I applied to the Chief of Staff’s office, VP office and Domestic Policy if my memory serves me correctly. I conducted a phone interview with the office of presidential correspondence back on Oct 28th, got the second APE, and that’s it.

Has anyone ever heard of a incoming college freshman getting an internship? (Assuming, of course, that they didn’t end a war or cure cancer or whatnot.) I know that technically I would be eligible for the summer 2012 session, but it seems like a really long shot going up against both undergrads and graduate students.

@neiro I think that if you can express your passion for public service and social change to the White House Internship Program to the best of your ability, I do not think that matters. The application is an excellent way of selling your brand. Apply for the Summer 2012 session. If you do not get in your first time, build your credentials and skills up and apply in the Fall of 2012. You have nothing to lose.

Unfortunately for me, this could be it for me. I graduated from college in 2009 and based on the qualifications, I cannot apply for the Summer 2012 session. But I am an optimistic type of girl. Whether I am accepted or not, I will move forward with my head up high, relentless and determined to change the world.

Diplomatiknupe - We are in the same boat! I also got interviewed in late October and received a second APE shortly after. No vitals. Havn’t heard since.
The fact that decisions have been released and have all been negative is really daunting in my opinion. Seems like choices have already been made but for some reason the admission panel is staggering its responses.

Neiro - It’s definitely very competitive for incoming freshman, many applicants have experience-backed resumes. However, I still feel like iChristina is right. Definitely apply. Things happen when you put yourself out there. And besides, the White House can’t say “yes” if you didn’t even apply in the first place.

iChristina - Best of luck. Hopefully we can all grab a couple of drinks in DC in the spring and look back with ease on these stressful times.

No matter what the message, I would really like to know before Thanksgiving. fingers crossed if they have concluded with interviews/vitals requests- maybe we will hear by next Wednesday.

Is anyone out there still getting interviewed?

Vitals email…has anyone (besides me) still not received it?

@pinkcupcakes agreed! Less than a week would be nice.

I mean, if last year’s spring applicants heard in mid-December, and were about two weeks later than we were, date-wise (like, everything on their schedule happened about two weeks later in the year than they have for us…notification date and so on), then we could really hear pretty soon. Maybe next week.

I did talk with a WH intern from last summer and she made it abundantly clear that interns are the very bottom of the list of priorities of any of the offices at the moment…so probably individual departments are slower to submit their choices…if that’s the case, then fair enough.

I was interviewed at the end of last week, but received my vitals email a month ago. I dont think there is any method to what is going on.

Amplifiar - I think interviews are practically over with possibly one or two offices still having a hard time choosing and probably placing a couple of calls. Bigtalker is the only one that I have heard hold an interview this late. Still have not received my vitals email.

Pinkcupcakes - I still stand by my ‘right after thanksgiving’ prediction haha.

@iskander yea, studying abroad. How about you?

And the wait continues…

Well, I received a vitals email and a phone interview. I still haven’t heard anything and I’d really like to know if they’ve notified anyone of their acceptance… AHHH the agony!!
Whatever happens, we’re all rockstars for trying! Cheers to all of us (future public leaders) :)

@neu723 Yup! :)

Virtual Happy Hour!.. I bring pink wine and crackers and dip! :D

Sounds wonderful

Good idea @ichristina2011. I’ll bring the vodka and tonic.

Hopefully we all get to enjoy real DC Happy hours when we get the internship :)
