White House Internship

From my understanding the still processing email is a good sign. It means you’re still in the running. Did you get an email today ?

did you get a still processing email today or last week? and is this your second notice?

i got a still processing email last Friday but haven’t heard anything since…

Does anyone know whether they sent out any acceptances yet? Or is everyone in the running still in the “processing” email stage?

And does the processing email mean that our applications are being shopped around by departments?

yea I think so - I heard that they send the ‘piles’ to each department and they go through each of them and choose who to interview, etc…

although you’d think if they’d be sending out interview notifications and more rejections by now?

So far it sounds like only one of us have gotten a vitals email, and no interviews. I don’t think there have been any more rejections since the initial wave on the 14th.

Hey all,

I received a vitals email today! Here’s hoping to a good weekend for everyone!

To those who got vitals emails… did it specify for what department? Congrats!

Also, what time did you get the vitals email?

hmm…feels like a bad sign if you have yet to get a vitals email…

Hey,

I got my vitals email this morning. I believe its the standard vitals email, attached with a pdf, requesting that I send it back. It did not specify a department. From previous years post, I don’t think the vitals email was either good or bad. Tons of people got it initially and didn’t survive the first cuts. I freaked out because I hadn’t received it and thought that was a sign that I was done for! Glad to be this far with the rest of you. Just breathe, you are all amazing!

Congratulations denver!

I’d be interested in knowing if there were any successful applicants who didn’t get a vitals email early on.

Are the vitals emails sent out all in one day or are they staggered?

Someone else got a vitals email a few days ago, so it seems as if they’re not all being sent out at once.

Congrats denver !!

My assumption is they are going out in waves, because I received mine Tuesday. So don’t worry guys I think they are still working on sending them out. At this point if you have not received a rejection letter then you are still in the running. Happy Weekend to all !!!

Hey guys,
A youngster here. Is this the first time you guys have applied for the internship?

I’d assume you guys would have to go through background checks, what do you think they look for? Crimes? Would anything regarding to family members effect your chances of being accepted?

I know a friend of mine whose cousin wanted to work the the CIA but wasn’t allowed to because his uncles were heavy drinkers and drug addicts.

Would something like that effect your chances?

Oh and I hear you have to tell them everything in detail, such as trips and the exact dates.

Good luck to you guys, can’t wait to be in your shoes to apply when I’m older!

Btw if you guys are looking into housing yet, I found on a earlier post about a place called loftstel, a month is under 1000 and cheaper if you are a student. I’ve read some nice reviews but others claim its kinda sketchy, and scary at night. If you guys do book there, could you come back here and give me a review?

The CIA has a much higher background check threshold. Theirs has to be much more thorough because CIA interns are granted full Top-Secret Security Clearances (sometimes even TSSCI). The CIA interns are paid for their time, and they frequently continue their careers with the CIA. Their application process is MUCH more in depth than the for the WH. The CIA does a full background check, interviews family/friends fro your past, and often requires drug testing/lie detector screenings. It shouldn’t come as a surprise, though. The CIA interns, just by working at CIA headquarters, are exposed to some very sensitive national security information, whereas WH interns are exposed (if they’re lucky) to semi-sensitive information regarding the inner workings of a presidential administration. Still very important, but less of a national security threat. Hope that makes sense! :)

I am not sure what type of ‘family history’ you might be worried about, and I cannot answer your inquiry about you family history’s potential to harm your chances, but I can say that you have a much better shot getting an internship at the WH than you have at the CIA (if you have a questionable family past).

The other difference is that the WH program is really structured. You intern in a specific office, doing ‘intern work’ and attending guest lectures from some really interesting high-level administrators (how cool is that?!), but at the CIA, the program is less intern-work based, and more focused on integrating young talent into their network.

This isn’t proprietary information; if you have any questions about the CIA program, you should go visit their website. It tells you all about program requirements and the application process. Happy hunting!

@shintelikemystar: that CIA post is for you. :)

Hey guys-been reading this thread lately. I had an interview wednesday, but the person interviewing me was not sure when the central intern office would notify people. Though they did say it was on a rolling basis.

Welcome ozzieguillen !! And congrats on the interview. Do you mind sharing what office the interview was with and how it went ?

Thanks wh2360!

Aha don’t worry, maybe the worst thing in my family background has got to be speeding tickets :p

I kind of want to do an internship at the CIA but would realistically like to pursue a career in the medical career. I just want the experience and oppuritunity to work/serve the country.
