White House Internship

@Bruce The Office of Presidential Correspondence consists of interns, staff members, and local volunteers. President Obama gets thousands of letters and phone calls every day. He needs a large group of dedicated individuals to fill those roles.

Imo, one of the largest, if not, the largest office in the White House. In terms of this administration, OPC is part of the White House Internship Program (WHIP). Its role within the WHIP Program might have been different during previous administrations.

Anyone taking classes while doing the internship?

That would be extremely difficult to pull off… Fall season is the busy season for most offices.

I got accepted last Monday. I’m going to be senior and I’ll be taking classes in the fall. Right now I’m registered for 12 credits.

Were you an intern amplifier? What was it like?

@apatel91 where are you taking your courses? whats your schedule like?

I am not sure what I’m going to be doing yet!

Was anyone put on a waiting list and then never heard anything back?

I got accepted last week. For those of you still waiting, be patient. It seems that decisions are rolling out continuously. For those of you accepted, what are you doing for housing? I am looking for apartments/roommates, searching craigslist, etc. If you are interested in sharing a place or helping out each other with the housing search, send me a pm.

@mchockeyguy I was wondering if you could give me some information. What was your resume and such like? Im just curious since you were accepted and I am applying for the Spring 2013 internship. Any advice on getting accepted also?

hi everyone,
i’m also interning in the fall and am trying to figure out my housing situation. does anyone know if most interns live in one of the housing options they sent us? (ie: washington intern student housing) or do most interns find apartments on their own? thanks!

MODERATOR’S NOTE:

Requests for housing/roommates are considered solicitations and are NOT allowed on CC.

When’s everyone starting the internship?

Starting Sept 4th the original start date for interns

Hey people. ^_^

So where are the Fall 2012 interns at? It’s so quiet on this trend. Any recent WHIP alum going to campaign for President Obama this fall? I cannot wait until the conventions and debates!

Yep! Lots of the summer interns are going to the campaign!

I just applied for the Spring 2013 internship. Should I have received a confirmation e-mail immediately?

Has anybody in Fall 2012 heard about orientation yet?

@Coolwhips Your orientation should be tomorrow, the 4th. Good luck! :D

@dulceestdesipere Wait another week or so. I applied to the Spring 2012 internship in August of last year. I got accepted in early December. You have plenty of time.

You can always email or call the WH Internship Office if you have questions about your application. The staff there is very professional and friendly.

I would like to get a graduate interns/study civil engineering in any country except South Africa, can someone please help me archive my dream/goal.

Are current and former WH interns FIRE UP and Ready to Go!?! :p

Are WH interns actually randomly drug tested during the internship, or only at the beginning?
