White smoke but no announcement yet as to who it is?

DS and I are watching and awaiting the announcement with curiosity…

It’s Cardinal Jorge Maro Bergoglio from Argentina. He’s a Jesuit. I believe the Jesuits are one of the most liberal orders.
My S graduated from a Jesuit HS.

A jesuit from Argentina!

And the first EVER pope from outside of Europe!

I applaud this decision.
This will be very, very interesting. They are focused on social justice so we’ll see how this plays out.

They’re saying apparently his main focus has been on care of the poor, and that’s been known to dress “normally” and go out on the streets to speak with regular people, and takes public transportation. This is a fascinating development.

+1 (in May)

I’m sure they’re celebrating at school right now.

And the choice of the name Francis too seems to bear that out hayden

Time to get the Malbec. Cheers!

Apparently he’s also know for his humility and living simply. Sounds more like Jesus than many other people right now in the church.

Pope Francis! God bless him.

Nope, just first in a long, long time.

Just curious, are papal names anglicized in our media? Would he be Francisco in Italy or Argentina?

An Italian interviewed from the crowd called him Pope Francesco.

My S is also at a Jesuit HS…will have to illegally text him
to see how the news was received.

It has been anglicized its Francesco I

I thought I heard them say Francisco first. I am so impressed by this decision.

He has a wikipedia page already.
