An obvious one would be to eliminate the celibacy requirement. I wonder how much more transparency the Church would have then… The real problem with such a draconian mandate is that it is the prime manifestation of the Church’s stance towards man, which is to deny man’s corporeal being in total favor of his spiritual one – not only for the shepherd but for the flock too, although the flock, of necessity, must procreate. It simply goes against nature and all things physical.

Another thing that has always irked me about the Church is (put in Freudian terms) that there appears to be room only for the super-ego. The id and the ego be damned!. I can see where the id is a loathsome rascal, but the ego?! Seems to me that the ego has played an important part in the Church’s history. Eliminate it? Good luck with that!

" Because people should never have negative comments about this or because you disagreed? Genuinely curious "

It wasn’t about agreeing or disagreeing . It was , IMO disrespectful towards those who celebrate their religeon and the traditions. I don’t like it when people assume that Catholics all support pedophilia any more than assumptions that all Muslims are terrorists.
And it isn’t the church’s position to support abortion …don’t like it, then don’t be a Catholic.

Should also mention eliminating the ban on birth control. How blind is that?! There are too many of us as it is. Don’t believe it? – try taking a ‘stroll’ on Fifth Avenue in New York.

Abortion is a little touchy…taking of an innocent life and all, regardless of what stage it is. However, there are some “fully human” beings whose aborted lives might make many a soul rejoice!

And yet your spouse works for the ‘company’, pulls their paycheck and accepts their (in your own evaluation) very good healthcare coverage. How is is possible to live with this influence under a roof that has such obvious and often stated disdain for this organization? Seems the wikipedia definition of hypocritical. Also seems like it wouldn’t be good for anyone’s overall health.

There won’t be “too many of us” for much longer and the rest of us will need the religious families (or other families) that don’t use birth control to support us in our old age.

I work in midtown Manhattan, by the way, and the congestion on Fifth Avenue has nothing to do with birth rates and everything to do with its cool factor.
