Hi everyone,
I just got accepted to university at Albany and Utica college. Waiting for stony brook, Binghamton, university at buffalo and Penn State. I want to know who gets to decide which credits will be accepted and which will not. Do admissions or register office get to decide? Or does the department chair?
Generally, the registrar will apply the credits, but the determination as to what credits to accept is left to the individual department.
Can you complain about a credit they won’t accept? Since some schools won’t accept it and want you to take their version of class?
Really depends on the school. Sometimes, you can appeal, and they might ask for you to scan your syllabus so they can see exactly what you were supposed to be learning about but it’s really on a case-by-case basis.
You can always appeal, but the decision is up to the school. They can always say no.
[SUNY universities](https://www.suny.edu/attend/get-started/transfer-students/course-equivalencies/) have a transfer equivalency table. If you plug in course numbers from your current college, you can find out what course SUNY has decided is its equivalent. For instance, a student who took Intermediate Algebra/MATH 004 at Penn State wouldn’t get any credit for it at Albany.
The final decision at SUNY schools is made by the campus registrar, though, so you can provide the course description and see what they say. However, if you’re at a NYS community college they’ve likely already reviewed the courses. Freshman English and math courses don’t always transfer, and students in certain majors may need to meet certain grade requirements for some credits to transfer.
My friend (community college) got accepted to university at buffalo and won’t accept his physics course he took. Register said “class seem easy” or something like that. Can they really do that? I’m paranoid about that.
He went to a SUNY two year community college
Why be paranoid? Call and ask each school. No one here can tell you.
