Who at CC is applying to Columbia?

what were your interviews like? Have mine this Friday…yikes

@09755149lan My interviewer was super nice. She asked the standard questions(Why Columbia? What extracurriculars? What major and why?) But one was really hard to answer. She askes why Columbia should choose me. So be prepared for that one! Just be yourself. Mine was over phone which was a little disadventageous as I would probably have seemed more simpathic stumbling in person than over phone. :D

Thanks @book05! That’s really helpful
Haven’t been contacted for an interview yet…Got a confirmation email kinda today. It just said to check common app to see if all materials are submitted. The confirmation account on columbia’s website doesn’t open until feb 15th, right?

@book05
OMG THANK YOU SO MUCH, I can’t imagine going into the interview without preparing for a question like that…

@SpoolMan @09755149lan You’re very welcome. and one more advice: bes speficic,e.g. I did not just say I liked the Core Curriculum but especially the foreign language requirement because of my Asian background and the fact that they have an amazing east Asian library. So try to avoid generic responses.
And about the response email. To be honest, I have kind of lost count of all the emails received. But I do remember something like that. :)

OK, really strange question but, how do I as an American citizen apply for financial aid if I live in Taiwan and my parents (not US citizens) only pay Taiwanese taxes? The CSS profile requires American tax returns and forms and I can’t fill in the international student financial aid form. Ugh, hate paperwork…:((

@09755149lan Since this is a special case, I would just email the office of admission. It is quite rare that children do not have the same citizenship as either of their parents.

The Columbia account information can’t be accessed until Feb 10th, right? Has anyone got the link to access the account to check your application completeness?

They email you the link and Columbia ID in an email titled “Columbia University Application ID Number,” and yes, they say in the email “You may check your status online between February 10 and March 21, 2014”

Yes, it will be available only from 10th February

Pretty sure the account doesn’t work yet unless you’re a deferred ED applicant

Hey good luck to everyone. Hope to see you guys around campus in the Fall!!

my daughter’s dream school is Columbia U. She had interviewed with other school, but had not got any from Columbia U. Is the school interview selective?

I don’t think so… It should be more about if Columbia has the volunteers to conduct the interview in your area. You can read this for more info
<a href=“Interviews | Columbia Undergraduate Admissions”>http://undergrad.admissions.columbia.edu/apply/first-year/interviews</a></p>

Yeah, it depends on if there are volunteers in the area. You can still be accepted without having an interview!

Did anyone here from South Korea get interviewed yet? If so, let me know!

D applied and interviewed. Waiting like everyone else now.

Didnt get an interview yet. Should I be worried?
Does anyone know anyone who got in without an interview?

@OptimistPrime As you are an international students, interviews are probably limited and given on a random basis. It doesn’t indicate anything about your application. Not having an interview will not hurt your chances. There are many people who got in without an interview.

@OptimistPrime No, it depends if here are volunteers in your area. If you are an international student, then it’ll be harder to get you an interview. No interview does not mean that you aren’t competitive. It’s based on availability. Btw, I like the name!
