Who do I root for tonight?

This is really weird. My son’s college (Berkeley) is playing my daughter’s college (Seattle Pacific) in the opening game of the basketball season tonight at Cal. This is our first year with two children in college and the only time I’ve ever heard Berkeley (a powerhouse at many of their sports, with 30,000 students) play Seattle Pacific (a tiny little school of 3,000).

I think I know who’s supposed to win and who’s gonna win, but officially I will stay neutral. ;)

Anyone else ever had a circumstance like this? I just find it humorous.

Who knows, maybe the Cal team will go to the wrong gym and have to FORFEIT. If they do find the right building, I suggest you root for both teams! Go Seattle Pacific Bears!!!

Root for Seattle, of course.

I remember watching a college football game where there was a girl in the stands whose brother played for one team and her fiance played for the other. She had both jerseys cut vertically in half and stitched together, and wore her half-and-half.

Or Mrs Bowden, who until recently had to endure an annual meeting of her husband’s team vs her son’s team.

What do the Mannings do if Eli plays Peyton?

You don’t root for either - you tune in the Colbert Report and watch a rerun of last night’s post-election satire. That’s gonna be a terrible basketball game  .

Haha, gadad. Good idea. :)

Okay, 91-70, Cal… but that’s not the blowout I was expecting! I guess the Falcons are a Div. II team that advanced to their regional semi-finals for the NCAA last year.

Quote from one of the Cal players: ““I think this was a good game for us. I don’t know how many teams will play that style of play, maybe Washington State a little bit. It is the Princeton stuff with the cuts and the open posts and the back cuts.””

It’s happened. IIRC, their mom said she was rooting for no injuries and Archie said he was cheering for good offense. :)

hmmmm… this is CC… should it be “Who should I root for?” or “For whom should I root?”

lol

I had a similar situation last year when my D’s school South Carolina, played my son’s school, North Carolina, in football. When my D asked who I was going to root for my answer wasn’t as simple as I had first thought; I thought at first I could squeak by with “Carolina” and laugh it off…but you see UNC is referred to by virtually everyone (outside South Carolina) as simply “Carolina”…so that went out the window…

Then you get into the debate about the “real” Carolina but we won’t go there…

He’s in med school now so we don’t have that problem any more.

I recall the advice to a parent here who faced this dilemma in the past:

You sit down. You start cheering. You don’t stop. :D
