Who does UCSD offer fast-track MD program to?

^^ GPA above 4.0 weighted or what?

obviously.

4.0 + 2250SAT+

if you’re 2010 you should get the email sometime in the next few days. Kids in N. Cali have theirs already at least where I’m at

Is this the med scholars thing? 12 students actually get in after going through the whole process. Cutoffs are simply for eligibility.

That said, by the end of March.

:)

Oops, I probably should have clarified that-thanks Karthikkito. Yeah, they send it to everyone who applied to UCSD with a 4.0+ and SAT 2250+ but only 12 maximum are offered a spot. You’ll need to send in an essay about why you want to pursue medicine, recs, etc. and if you make the next round, you’ll have an interview and be notified some time before May 1

the program isn’t fast-track…it’s four years undergrad, four years med school

Yea, but you’re guaranteed a place for med school as long as you keep a 3.5 (which you’d have to do anyways if you were planning to go to med school). Saves a lot of stress you would’ve have your junior/senior year in undergrad.

lol yeah i know…i’m in it

Do you have to say you are going to UCSD to apply for the MD program? Because I don’t really want to go unless I get into it

First you apply to UCSD. If you get in and if you have meet the requirements (http://meded.ucsd.edu/admissions/med_scholar.html), you are invited to apply to the med scholars program. I think they send out letters. Then selected students are called for an interview. From this batch, twelve students are chosen. You can accept your spot into the program before accepting your spot into UCSD.

Definitely an awesome program to be guaranteed admission to UCSD med school. I was invited to apply for the program back in the day but declined since I had no medical-related EC’s. Now that I’m applying to to med school I can only dream of getting into UCSD med.
