Who Else Is Just Buying at the Bookstore?

So …who just decided to buy from UCD Bookstore? Some books on Amazon (even used) for me anyways ended up being 1-4 less online…and most that were offering cheaper books…were kind of shady sites.

Who else is going to buy everything at the bookstore to save the hassle?

I’m also kind of hesitant in buying online to a shipping address in Davis. Primarily because I’m not familiar with if it’s safe or not when I’m out of the house and UPS just leaves it outside for anyone to see and…well…take. Maybe I’m a bit paranoid…but there are some seriously starving college students out there…advice?

I reserved them and I think I’ll just get them that way.

i got my russian books on amazon, as well as the chem 2a workbook

anyone know how much the General Chemistry book costs at the UCD bookstore? (new and used prices)

is the chem workbook required?

by workbook, do you guys mean the lab manual?

sry if i misinformed you guys on what i bought lol
yes, by workbook i meant the lab book. and yea it says on siscast it is needed:
[Siscast.com - Class Planner for UCD Students](http://ucd.siscast.com/book.php?do=1&class)=55909&class=&class=&class=&class=&class=&x=0&y=0

is that just a notebook with empty pages?
can we use our own notebooks instead?

i’ve noticed that a lot of people are selling the used ones online
and i was wondering about how many pages would we need
would a brand new one(100 pages) cover me for three quarters if i take the chem2abc series? if it does, then i’ll probably just buy one from the bookstore

yeah iceangel you’ll need a chem workbook, the solutions manual however is optional, however they are meant to cover the entire series i believe

i always find it easier just to get the books at the bookstore and just charge it to the student account

buyback is pretty sweet too i got 420 bucks for 550 worth of books

thanks!
but do we have to buy from the bookstore in order to sell it to the bookstore?
like do they buy back books that were bought online?

As far as the chem lab notebook (“workbook” as you’re calling it).
(Speaking as a Chem TA…)

DO NOT BUY A USED LAB NOTEBOOK!!!
Your chem 2 TA should NOT allow you to write in the same lab notebook as somebody else. You need your own lab book with only your work in it!

BUY a new lab notebook. I don’t care what you buy, but it needs to have carbon copy pages (or carbon-less copy pages). TA’s will sometimes collect the carbon copy at the end of lab to verify the data you use in your write-up is the same data YOU collected in lab. A 100 pg lab notebook should last you through Chem 2abc, and maybe part of ochem as well.

You will receive a free copy of the lab manual (procedures for experiments) and goggles on the first day of chem 2a. You are not permitted to wear safety glasses so don’t bother to try. You will only receive 1 free pair of chemistry goggles your entire time at UCD so don’t loose them. Lab manuals are also available online in PDF form from the chemistry department website.

I chose to order my books online because the bookstore won’t give out quotes over the phone. They could be hella expensive, I didn’t want to take the chance.

I ordered my books from amazon last week and they came yesterday.

@himerus

I did the same for my Russian books :3
but for Chemistry, I think i’ll just sit on it and buy a used one from the UCD bookstore.
thanks for the advice Pearlinthemist, ill be sure to get a new one

My Chem TAs never gave us a lab manual for free… I bought a copy from the bookstore (a different lab manual for each quarter). Only about $5 though.
