My dad got me a cellphone for getting an 800 on Chem, is anyone here with parents like that?

i was going to get a car if i got 800’s on BOTH chem and spanish. ugh before the test i was sure i’d fail chem and get an 800 on spanish.

instead, chem 800 spanish 790. ONE QUESTION from a car. lol i’m so mad at myself!!

i think my mom only made the offer though cause she KNEW it was impossible for me :P!

Umm… my parents took me out to dinner my freshman year for getting an 800 on Bio-M, but they were just excited bc it was my first SAT.

I wish my parents would give me stuff lol. Their like you should be getting 800s and stuff like that. Like I asked my parents if they would give me anything for being ranked number one in history in my class (meaning grade) and she was like no. lol, doesn’t she realize that some people need incentives as motivation to work hard? lol. I can’t complain though because my parents give me a lot of stuff.

I can’t demand stuff for getting perfect scores, but I usually get something… But the most I like is the excitement of getting that perfect score

Haha Ilovesoftball, I know what you mean. Usually they’ll give me stuff randomly, but then right after I do well in something they just shrug.

The car offer was most likely a joke by my mother though, because we were all expecting like a 500 on my chem.

i got a vibraphone for getting 780 on bio…ha my parents are easy to please i guess

I haven’t gotten any perfect SAT IIs yet :-/

I got an 800 Math on the SAT…that’s my only perfect so far

I’ve never gotten an 800 on anything (790 on Math Level 2, though…), but every time I get a high score (750+) my mom’s just like “Oh, that’s nice.” On the flip side, though, when I got my 690 math on the SAT the first time I took it she was equally uncaring. XD

My parents basically say, “Okay, here’s the credit card, sign up for whatever you need to take and good luck.”

Nope. Nada. We’re a very non-celebrational family…

“Happy [fifth/sixteenth/eighteenth birthday]/[graduation]. I love you/Good job.” No celebration, no presents, and all that cwap.

My friends were always shocked “BY OMGZ THIS IS SO SPESHUL” :p

It’s all good though, I am a bit of an anti-materialist myself, things really don’t make me happy, knowing that I rocked the boat (did my best) does. xD

parents shouldn’t reward for good grades/tests. If you only do well because of what you’ll get, then you aren’t very self motivated.

after school is over and you go into the real world, you wont have your parents around to motivate you with presents. you’ll need to do it all by yourself.

Haha, nope. They just wanted me to print out the scores so they could have a paper copy. :P

My parents probably wouldn’t. They always say something like “If you get good grades, you’re the one benefiting, not me. Why should I care either way? My job is just to pay your tuition, feed you, put a roof over your head.” <- Of course they do more than that.

I told myself if I got a 700+ I’d buy myself a present, because the highest I scored on a practice was 650. I ended up getting 770 Chem, so present shopping for myself! Yay!

i just usually motivate myself. like if i get 700+ ill buy myself a little something. my parents would only get me something if i found the cure for cancer or something. things like straight A’s, 800 on SAT’s, etc they just congratulate me and force me to keep it up

by the way, this was my dad’s first time. I think he was joking, until he saw that I actually got an 800.
@DH9800: I get good grades too and most times (other than this one) my dad usually just says “Good job.” and then hugs me. I know that my parents aren’t always going to be around to motivate me, okay. Don’t think others don’t know about life.

I got an ice cream cone for getting a 780 on my math IC.

I bet my mom that if I got 780 or above on my chem SAT II, she would buy me a gamecube. When I checked my score, I found out that I got a 760. A few months later, my score miraculously rose up to 780 and my mom had to buy me the gamecube. Haha.

lucky (10 char)

Yeah I second naidu90’s reply to DH8900. I know where I want to go in life, and little bets along the way that involve some items are just an added plus.

my statement was general and in reference to none.

there is no need to take it personally.

I almost feel like my about-to-brag-ness is too much but I am far too excited to care anymore. ^_^;;;;

I got an 800 on Math IIC in October, a 2370 on my SAT I (800 M/800 V/770 W) in January, an 800 on U.S. History in May, and I found out this morning (at 5 am!) that I got an 800 on Chemistry on the June exam! My parents are so proud of me - I’m really proud of myself too - and they’re giving me a $100 to celebrate. It’s a great way to end the year! [/boast]

Sorry everyone! cough
