Who got into NYU as a transfer and is going?

Hey guys!

Who has been accepted to NYU as a transfer for the Fall 2012?

Hi nyuhoping, I was accepted to Stern as a transfer and I’m still thinking about my decision. What would be your reasons for transferring, if you’d like to talk about it or share?

I got in as a junior transfer. Still deciding though. Where are you guys transferring from?

@Linnus

Which school at NYU did you get in to?

I would be transferring from UCLA as Business-Economics major. I’m hesitant since I have very good leadership positions here (internal president for one, fundraising director for another) and an okay network. My reasons for transferring would be the career opportunities and the networks I could form.

Career opportunities: I want to do consulting or possibly financial services in the future, so I think Stern/NYC offers more opportunities in that field. My current school also holds great chances - I’m going to summer programs with three of the Big 4 accounting firms this summer and my original plan was to go work for one of them after graduation, then switch to their consulting arms, then MBA and work in private sector or continue in consulting.

Network: Sternies would probably be a more solid network career-wise, but as a transfer it would be hard to break into the social scene for obvious reasons.

Sorry, I know that was a long post. What do you guys think?

The social scene at NYU is a big concern, especially since it doesn’t have a campus and college atmosphere, which is something UCLA is much superior in regards to.

NYU can only be considered superior for finance - a vast majority of the school is geared towards students who study finance. Having spoken to alumni, there is a feeling that you can be left behind in terms of recruiting and networking if you’re not a finance major.

Although I love both schools (Dad is UCLA alumni and has worked in consulting for past 25 years, Mom graduated from Stern, but is a houswife), I’d lean towards staying at UCLA.

Definitely transfer, parisgirl. My friend transferred from UC Irvine to NYU Stern several years ago and now he’s working at Goldman Sachs. He makes 6 figures and met his long-time girlfriend at NYU. There’s a ton more opportunity in business in NY compared to LA. Good things happen there. New York is the center of the financial world, so it’s the place to be for you.

You’re over-thinking. I can tell. Don’t pass up this opportunity.
