Who has applied for housing?

Anyone applied for housing yet? I'm beginning the room mate search, and I'm super excited! My housing SN is jazzerina13- look for me if we are a good match! FIGHT ON!

Not yet accepted, so S hasn't applied. But can you tell us how the roommate search works? Is there some kind of matching system? Thanks!

i did my housing as soon as i got my packet because i really want new/north with a sink. where do you want to live? i think it was a little too simple- you could only choose one of those qualities to describe yourself, but i thought i was at least 4! as for the types of music...what if i listen to alternative but not techno? seems rather inefficient! ended up putting folk/easy listening because a lot of my music is super chill, but seemed like a strange category!

rainmama, when you sign up for housing there is a short questionnaire with multiple choice preferences. One question is about how neat you keep your room, another is about when you like to get to sleep/wake up. But with the limited responses, it can't be too particular. There is one question for the type of music you prefer and another for what you do in your free time. Then you are asked to select one of the criteria as the one you most want to match with a roommate. When you are done, you can go to a screen that lists all the same gender registrants in order of how well you match--from 100% (all 10 q's) on down. Kind of neat.

Best of luck to your son, rainmama! Basically, when you apply online for housing, you are asked to select a screen name and fill out a series of questions concerning your sleeping habits, studying habits, music preferences, interests, and traits. All of these questions are VERY general, just to warn you. Once you submit these questions, along with a $30 deposit, you are automatically entered into their system and you can start searching for roommates. There is a list of steps the site has you follow to do all this. Under this list of steps, you click "autosearch" and the site then shows you a list of other housing applicants, their percentage compatibility with you based on the questions, and their age. Hope this helps!

oh by the way- i think you have to be assigned to a building before you can continue with actually choosing a roommate. does anyone know how long it takes after you submit the housing application to find out which one of your choices you get?

My daughter and her best friend were able to request each other. Note, I did warn them I do not think it's a good idea to room with your best friend in college. I want them to make new friend, that's the whole point of going to college(D is not listening to me).

Thanks for the explanations - that's an interesting system.

Actually, you should search for roommates before assignment. Otherwise housing will do the matching for you.

I believe assignments don't begin until May after the deadline to commit but they are done date received order.

Just finished ranking them, will have officially applied for housing tomorrow.

I did mine yesterday

Birnkrant

Pardee

New

North

Parkside Suites

The only one I really want is Birnkrant though...I'm hoping that since only like half of admits have been sent I have a good chance.

omg jazzerina13, u were like #2 on my room mate search list. how funny. i was actually thinking about requesting you, but i'm not even sure if i'm going to go to usc yet.

OMG! That's so cool! What's your housing app. name? (You can message me privately if you don't feel comfortable sharing.)

carolbjoe. did u put arts and humanities as ur 1st choice?

Pardee is my first

So how do you search for roommates if you decide to submit deposit but not search immediately. D applied, did not search, now when she logs in all she sees is "Personal Details", "Contact Details", and "Education Details".
