And, what is a Golden Coral, other than a pusher of garbage passing as food?

Does anybody frequent this establishment?

When we had one in town, my family went there occasionally. Never was fond of their commercials, but the food’s not bad. It’s a middle-class buffet restaurant. The food’s not garbage, they’ll cook your steak to order, for the price of the buffet (flat rate, one kid price and one adult price), and they have vegetables, chicken, pizza, pasta, fruit, desserts, ice cream, etc. They may have had roast beef they carve for you as well… My memory’s fuzzy on that. Definitely not trash, though there’s no doubt that their advertising campaign is unattractive (but whose is attractive these days, really?) and that they’re contributing to America’s obesity problem…=P One could eat healthy there if he or she wanted to, but most of the customers had no interest in that, haha.

Thanks, EliK. I’m talking about the commercial with the fat, middle age people scarfing down
cotton candy, with some type of chocolate syrup fountain in the screen. I’ve never seen or heard of this establishment until yesterday, when I saw the first commercial.

I am sure they aren’t around here.

The chocolate fountain skeeves my H and I out. Ewww! So unsanitary.

Hah, doesn’t sound like an attractive commercial! I’ll be glad I’ve yet to see it…=P Golden Corral is similar to Ryan’s, if you’ve ever been to a Ryan’s, ahah.

Golden Corral (or Ryan’s) is about the best buffet we have in our area. It’s 2 hrs to the nearest nice one. But it’s find for a quick meal, if you pick the right things. As opposed to a fast food restaurant (for not a lot more money), you can get real fruit & vegetables and meat that’s not in a sandwich. It was good with the kids, too, because everyone could get what he or she wanted without breaking the bank. You wouldn’t go there for fine dining.

In our area it’s popular with seniors who can go there for a big midday meal if they don’t have a lot of extra money for food.

I’ve never seen any of their stores in our state, but they do run a lot of commercials on local channels. The latest commercial is definitely disgusting…

When I was in college long ago there was buffet in town called The Golden Apple (and which we referred to as The Rotten Apple). Used sometimes go there and pig out for the one and only meal that day - to basically cram in three meals for the price of one.

But these days I don’t normally eat at any buffets, no matter how good. All-you-can-eat invites over-eating - something most people should avoid, epsecially in these obesity-ridden times.

I don’t watch local tv, but is that like The Royal Fork?
Ooh steam tables! My Favorite!

I think this commercial was so incongruous because there seems to be such an emphasis everywhere on healthy eating. However, this commercial was geared toward the elderly and the emphasis has been more on younger and adult. For example, the proposal to do away with big sodas.

This was an interesting food story recently. This little girl in elementary school blogged about her school food in Scotland/Ireland? for less than two months and raised over $100,000.00 for kitchens in Malawi to feed the poor. Pretty impressive. The article has the name of her blog.

My 22 yr.old S loves the GC. It’s very popular in small towns with few offerings.

I don’t like their food and this commercial is really bad:

[Golden Corral 2 for $20 Commercial :30 - YouTube](<a href=“- YouTube”>- YouTube)

My youngest ate there on a trip to Florida once. She claims the word “Golden” is used because it describes the diarrhea she got afterward. Probably a coincidence.

Not really my kind of restaurant (actually I lean heavily towards home cooking), but I don’t find anything terribly objectionable about that TV commercial.

I think plenty of people would think the one Toledo #12 links to as discriminatory if not out and out bigotry.

The one playing here is not on youtube, and is different.

I’ve never eaten there. Buffets kind of skeeve me out. But I didn’t think the commercial was so bad.

Why?

Discriminatory against people who want their own appetizer?

When the kids were little we lived in a small town without many dining out choices, so occasionally we went to the Golden Coral. My youngest thought it was called the Golden Cow, we still call it that. He also called a back pack a pack pack and he called our dog, Duncan, Punkin.

Oh too funny! My middle child, who will be a senior in college this fall, remembers a middle school class trip where they stopped at Golden Corral for dinner. When the kids got off of the bus, they were herded into the front of the place and the management issued “orders”: no using the phones(this was before everyone had a cell phone)even if someone needed to call 911, no sitting more than the number allowed in a booth and under NO circumstances were the kids allowed to even touch the salt shakers!
That was the first and last time she ever went in such a place!

There’s a GC near my college. The food is about the same as what is served in college cafeterias. The food is ok, but nothing to write home about. It’s a great place to eat if you like your food servings wheelbarrow sized.

I was in an all-you-can-eat restaurant similar to GC a few years ago when a commotion started up inside the buffeteria. Turns out some old woman had filled up her giant purse with about 50 lbs of fried chicken pieces and started out the front door with it. The jr. asst. manager on duty confronted her and all heck broke loose. She ran out the door and started throwing chicken legs at the manager while trying to make her get away. When she got in her car the manager laid down in front of the woman’s car to try to stop her. She floored it and the manager luckily was yanked out of the way by a security guard. Good thing the guard didn’t have a gun or he probably would have started shooting at the lady as she sped off. It was quite a show that night!
