who has the lowest scores?

It seems that the general gist of people on this forum are overly worried about their college careers. It also seems to be a general trend of people in college, that once you’re in, you really don’t care at all, and you tell people who are still doing their applications not to worry, just apply and throw caution into the wind. I thought it’d be fun to share who has the lowest scores, and still got in. Kind of a change of pace if you will. Might want to include the year you left hs b/c admissions changes, as well as the sat point system…

My scores from hs (i graduated hs in 04):
UC gpa: about 3.3-3.4
SAT I: 1310
SAT II: Math IIc: 680 Writing: 640 Chem: 650
Extras: played lacrosse 4 years, Varsity lacrosse 2 years, w/ all-leauge first team
And yes, i still got into college :)

I had a friend in hs who got into cal w/ aprox. these numbers:
UC gpa: 2.8
SAT I: around 1200
SAT II: all around 600
He also managed staright C’s his second semester senior year. He’s still there now… not failing out…

College isn’t all about numbers…

All of my SAT scores were in the 500s ha ha hah
But I had practically straight A’s all throughout high school…
I didn’t really do any ECs AT ALL.

I agree very much that these stats don’t prove much at all about how well you will do in college. People here really do freak out too much about applying…and I hate it. Everyone posts their amazing stats and then they act like they are afraid they won’t get accepted anywhere. what.the.heck.

Good thread. People worry about college too much, in my opinion. There are bigger fish to fry.

hoboknifefight: I’m pretty much the inverse of you.

My SAT scores were all in the 700s, usually the high end. I had a LOT of ECs, and a lot of awards to go along with those ECs.

But alas, my GPA sucked crap. 3.3 UW/3.9 W. Near straight C’s my sophomore year did it in for me.
That year sucked ass for me, but I’m a little glad for it; made me wake up and realize what I’m doing things for.

Syneria: At least you snapped out of it. I STILL don’t know what the hell I’m doing.

My stats were pretty decent, but I started my application the day before and sent it in the day of the deadline. I totally half-assed it and it was terrible. I regretted it halfway through the waiting process, but oh well. I’m in.

haha…i did pretty much the same thing except i actually started the application (including the essays!!) the SAME day they were due. I actually submitted the application around 11:30 P.M. that day. 30 mins. before they were due! haha. It took me so long just to login to the application…the website was soooo slow. Probably because thousands of other applicants were doing the same haha

Holy crap, Diana.

Besides Math being in the high 700s, my other two SATs were in the 700s, as well, with my GPA faultering almost the same way (3.2 UW/3.7 W). I also had a stacked EC/work/sport schedule to help me out with that component of the comp. review.

“I agree very much that these stats don’t prove much at all about how well you will do in college”

I couldn’t agree with this one any more. A friend of mine had amazing numbers coming out of hs, and got a clean sweep of UC acceptances. He goes to UCLA. We are in similar majors (he is BME, and i’m ME), and in the first 2 years, you take basically the same classes. Guess what, our college scores are pretty identicle. He was kicking my ass in HS, and now we’re about the same.

College is a different beast than HS. HS is SUPER easy, b/c it’s geared towards the lowest common denominator. The goal is to get people to finish HS. The goal with college is to get you out of there, whether you’re kicked out or you finish in 3 years, so that there is room for someone else.

I also know of a lot of straight A, 1400 sat kids who flunked out of their major or are on AP (academic probation). College is a whole 'nother beast w/ living away from your parents, and the ability to party every night of the week. Some people just can’t handle it.

Well… I’ll show my stats, and believe me, you guys WILL get surprised… after reading all of your scores and all of that, I feel kind of stupid… oh well, here it goes…

SAT I: 1510 (MATH: 590, WRITING: 490, READING: 460)
SATII: MATHII: 580 SPANISH: 760 (and i’m sure there where questions with no right answer)

I only took one AP class (Spanish) they didn’t let me take other AP classes… Mmm what else… My UC GPA was like 4.1 (but come on! the classes where too damn easy!)… My ECs where all done in Tijuana and I never did play any sports… The only reason I think I got in was that I studied almost ALL my life in Tijuana, Mexico except for my Junior year and my Senior Year… who knows…
