do you ‘qualify’ for anything on the CDC list such that you could self-certify to a pharmacy? (BMI 30+ will cover millions <65.)
I grew out of asthma, I wonder if I can make that work.
I have high blood pressure
This is crap anyways. I have no idea why it matters.
I can own a thousand guns, I can carry one around on my body. That I have a right to do.
But god forbid I want a vaccine.
I don’t have any qualifiers. I can’t even say former smoker, bc I never smoked, ever. I am lean and of proper weight, physically active even after 2 achilles heel rupture surgeries. My H may say I’m moody at times, lol. I just have family members whom I am trying to protect. I will have to see how all this vaccine policy turmoil plays out. It is ridiculous.
Maybe for a week do less than the recommended amount of cardio (150 minutes moderate or 75 minutes vigorous) or strength training (twice) to say that you did not meet the physical activity guidelines for the week? Or if you were ever in a place with lots of secondhand smoke, you can say that you “secondhand smoked” at one point in time?
in the 34 states, folks can self-certify that they are eligible w/o a script or other documentation.
Because that makes sense AND that is giving people a choice and decision to make. Can’t be having people think for themselves. ![]()
Yes and no. Generally insurers go by recommendations. Not recommended, less likely to be covered. I’m guessing you know that.
I have no idea why limiting a vaccine that 23% of adults got last year is even an issue.
correct. Not sure I posted anything to the contrary. If something is recommended by ACIP as preventive, ACA-approved plans must offer it. But not necessarily true of non-ACA plans. Employer plans can cover an item that is not required by law or reg. How they make that determination is up to them.
Right. I’m saying that that is unfortunate. People shouldn’t have to pay OOP because the rules have been changed for political reasons, rather than the previous science - based recommendations.
'besides the obvious politics, “the science” comes down to medical necessity and where one draws the line. Do healthy children really need a vax for a virus that can be fatal to the elderly? Do young, healthy adults bcos they care for their immunocompromised parents? Have private insurers ever paid for vaccines for the primary reason of protecting someone other than the person being vaccinated? Perhaps we should, but is that the responsibility of private insurers or the govt (state/local PH clinic)? Shouldn’t Congress fund it? In the absence of Congress, do the states have a roll here?
btw: CA required covid vax for school enrollment, but dropped it. If no state requires a covid vax for school attendance….
I get a flu vaccine because I don’t want the flu. I get the flu vaccine because I like to protect my immune compromised spouse and my child who is still in treatment from her cancer and my elderly relatives.
I got the shingles vaccine because I don’t want the shingles.
I’d like to get the Covid vaccine because of reasons above and I have no idea why anyone cares whether I do or not.
I’m more than happy to pay.
I heard back from the nurse at my doctor’s office. She said that prescriptions are required in my state despite the maps being shown in major news outlets saying prescriptions are not required in my state. Fortunately they are willing to write a prescription. This won’t be easy for people that don’t have a PCP or can’t afford to pay for the vaccine if insurance won’t pay.
I hope you get it one way or another because I know it’s important to you - and your family.
I bet if there were a vaccine for a common cold people would be all over getting that. Think of all the benefits: better school and work attendance, parents would take less sick leave for kids, heck we could put the Kleenex industry nearly out of business.
A version of this vaccine saved uncountable lives 4+ years ago.
wonder why people are still spooked about not wanting to get sick!
$140 will not be out of many people’s reach. BUT $140 will be out of reach for SO many people. For a couple that’s $280. People can’t put food on the table. That vaccine will not be able to be a priority. Another way the disadvantaged get left behind.
Science and health care do not develop or give vaccines willy nilly! How many vaccines for illnesses have been developed in the last 50 years or so. It’s not many when you consider the communicable diseases out there.
Rubella vaccine.
Flu can be deadly to those populations. Flu vaccine is available to anyone. At least until RFK and his anti-vaxx team gets to it.
HPV for boys.
We live in a state where CVS won’t be able to vaccinate anybody. However, the state next door that is only a couple of miles away will be vaccinating, and not requiring prescriptions.
We hope that we can sign up for a COVID shot this fall in the adjacent state……
I would have no issues crossing state lines to get vaxes I needed and wanted. Fortunately, I can get what I need in my own state.
