Who here has not gotten COVID? Who has long COVID?

I just read the CDC may say COVID vaccines for over 75 but doctor’s prescription for anyone under 75. In the meantime my governor (MA) is using state guidelines. Not sure what will happen once the CDC meets.

do you remember the source?

Sorry I was lazy!

Wa Po health report: excerpt

The following are reportedly under consideration:

Recommending the shot for those 75 and older but instructing people who are younger to speak to a physician before they get the vaccine.

Not recommending the vaccine to people under 75 without preexisting conditions.

What’s next: Limiting access to vaccines for older people could cause a backlash politically, my colleagues report — with an estimated 43 percent of people ages 65 to 71 receiving a 2024-2025 version of the coronavirus vaccine.

The events are likely to set off a chain reaction involving increasing uncertainty around insurance coverage of vaccines and states — which have historically followed the federal government’s direction — continuing to go their own way in developing their own immunization guidance.

We didn’t want to wait and risk possible shortages and hassles if we waited for vaccine, so got ours 9/5. If there are still vaccines in November, we may get boosters. We got ours at CVS & no copay with our insurer — covering all 6+ months old.

wow, that’s nearly as crazy as FL. Not to mention, politically stupid. Seniors vote!

(From a health standpoint, only a small % of seniors do not have ay least one preexisting condition, so what’s the point of excluding those few healthies?)

thanks for posting.

I got one a few years ago but I wasn’t 65 yet so they said I’d need another and then that would be it. The pharmacy said I needed one and then looked up what I’d had, and then said yes, I need one more. Not an immediate need and I do not suffer from respiratory illnesses often.

I played mahjongg today with the couple who had it the day after we last played together. She said her H didn’t have it, and she only had to isolate for 1 day (24 hours after a fever) and that was it.

Medicare covers vaccines, so almost everyone over 65 has the right to get the vaccine and have it paid for.

We’ll see what happens at the CDC next week.

Wow! I assumed that over 65 would be sufficient, and I was going to wait a few more weeks. Never occurred to me they would raise it to 75! I actually don’t have any comorbidities, so I’ll make an appointment for early next week. Thanks for the heads-up.

Edit: just booked an appointment for Tuesday morning. Fingers crossed they still have some then

Had to do another Costco run after work, and OMG :scream: the pharmacy line was so long it snaked into the self checkout! Sigh.

Looks like Kaiser will offering no cost vaccines to their members who are 6 months or older beginning 9/15.

U.S. death rate hits four-year low as COVID falls from top 10 causes

“For the first time since the start of the pandemic, COVID-19 is no longer among the 10 leading causes of death in the United States, according to new federal data. Suicide has taken its place on the list, underscoring a shifting landscape of public health challenges.”

Today, we attended a blood pressure course put on by our local BCBS for the community. During the course, we were told that ideally, folks 65+ should get TWO boosters of the current COVID shot! This was the 1st time I’ve heard this! I’m fine with getting a 2nd booster, if we’re allowed to do so. Since I just got one, I will be happy to get a 2nd one a few weeks before the holiday gatherings.

Do they mean two or three total per year? Two total per year seemed to be a common recommendation for older people.

She was somewhat confusing so I will ask our MDs. She was a very young pharmacist. I had 2024-25 shot in April and just had 2025-26 on 9/5. We will see a radiation oncologist on Monday. Maybe he will weigh in.

exactly, every 6 months can make sense for many seniors, but two now?

It’s all as clear as mud for all of us who are trying to follow guidelines written in jello.

My husband and I got our Covid and flu vaccines this morning. We are in Michigan. I’m 63, husband will be 65 in a week.

I wanted to wait but my husband said that they have the vaccines, who knows what will happen, let’s get it over with.

On line, I checked the box that we had underlying conditions, it was not questioned at all at Walgreens.

Best of all, it was run through our insurance. BCBS for me, Medicare for the H. Insurance approved all of our vaccines! No cost.

I also got my pneumonia vaccine and HepA & b. So I’m all good for a while :+1:

Rumor has it that the age for the COVID vaccine might be bumped up to 75 soonish.

I decided it wasn’t worth taking any chances. I was picking up a RX at Target, and asked the pharmacist if there was any chance they could give me a COVID shot. He said…sure…have a seat. Easy peasy, and no line at all.

But many of us over 65 or in my case close to 75 have health issues that will qualify us, albeit, possibly, with an Rx. @thumper1 did you get the updated shot and which one?
