Yes. If you tell me the name, I can tell you what I got.
ETA…I think this one: mNEXSPIKE
My Target pharmacy is actually a CVS.

For clarification, these are the COVID-19 vaccines available now in the US:
The Pfizer and Moderna vaccines have been updated to target the LP.8.1 variant (versus the KP.2 variant last year). In addition, mNEXSPIKE is a new version of the vaccine platform that uses a smaller dose of mRNA targeting only the parts of the spike protein that change often. Nuvaxovid is the same as last year, targeting the JN.1 variant (which current variants are descended from, although LP.8.1 is closer to current variants than JN.1 is).
Target used to run its own pharmacies, but sold the pharmacy operations in Target stores to CVS some years ago.
True, but not everyone. I believe I don’t have any qualifying health issues, though I’m over 65. I still want the vaccine, and I shouldn’t have to “earn” it with a health issue. Well, I don’t think anyone should have to no matter what their age, for that matter!
With the same apprehension as @thumper1 , I made an appointment for tomorrow morning, rather than wait a month more which I would have. Just hoping they don’t run out before then.
My quest for a COVID vaccine continues. Insurance will only pay if I get a vaccine at a doctor’s office although I could have to pay for an office visit which they won’t pay for since I haven’t met my deductible. Doesn’t matter though since I can’t find a doctor that has the vaccine. I guess I will be going to a pharmacy and paying for it myself. At least GoodRx has a coupon to bring the price down.
That’s ridiculous! My doctor’s office only carried the Covid vaccine the year they came out, we have to go to the pharmacy for our vaccines.
Walgreens only asked if I had an underlying condition, it didn’t ask what. I was not questioned at the pharmacy. Got my vaccine no questions asked. I’m under 65
We would have waited but decided to go ahead because there feels uncertainty about future outcomes
So @ucbalumnus these shots are updated?
Pfizer Comniraty LP.8.1
Moderna Spikevax LP.8.1
I had thought they were last year’s and didn’t even realize updated shots were available yet in some places….Good to know. But now I am confused. It seems the best option remains Moderna mNEXSPIKE. If/where it’s out.
I am going to wait so the vaccine immunity doesn’t run out before the holidays. I was in a study on antibodies and 3 months was the duration for strong antibodies for me.
My CVS pharmacist said they received the new vaccines at the end of August. The next spike is recommended for people over 65.
Yes, these target the more recent variant LP.8.1 rather than last year’s KP.2 variant.
This may sound silly but they need to “name” these vaccine varieties something more simple for the general public. Who is going to remember “Comniraty” or “Spikevax” when asked which shot they want?! ![]()
Comniraty and Spikevax are brand names that Pfizer and Moderna have been allowed to market the vaccines as since full approval (same with Nuvaxovid). Probably because of extensive use under EUA, most people are more familiar with the company names than the brand names of the vaccines, unlike for many other pharmaceuticals.
Now, Moderna has two versions, Spikevax and mNEXSPIKE, so asking for “Moderna vaccine” is no longer unambiguous (unlike “Pfizer vaccine” or “Novavax vaccine” in reference to COVID-19 vaccine).
Waiting for my covid shot. Just found out my insurance won’t cover NexSpike .
Ugghhhhh
Don’t want to wait for that to change and really don’t want to pay 250.
I’m in good health so I’ll go with the spikevax.
So angry!
Had my annual today and my NP told me they had Pfizer in the fridge for awhile but were not allowed to give it until last week, and only to 65+. MGH system is only doing Pfizer. He said if I wanted the mNEXSPIKE I should wait, and I want to wait anyway, so….he said to stay up on whatever info comes up and he will support me with an Rx if needed.
On the first day Kaiser offered COVID-19 vaccines as previously announced, there was a huge line at the walk-in vaccine place.
The West Coast Health Alliance, which my state is a part of, has issued vaccine guidance on COVID, flu and RSV.
essentially, anyone who wants the covid vaccine, which is a smart [political?] decision.
I’d love to see “the science” behind that decision. After all, wasn’t the whole point of the alliance is that it would be based “on the best science available”?
I don’t really get how that would work as medicare requires that certain vaccines be covered, and 65 is the age for medicare for most. My friend’s son has Down syndrome and has a combo of medicaid and medicare (because his father has been retired for a while and son got it when father retired) he would get it too, under medicare, but he’s only 33. (He’d qualify under other conditions too on medicaid as he has many chronic conditions).
I think they’d have to change the medicare rules. One thing good about having a congress older than dirt is that they like medicare to cover things and they do know their constituents are OLD VOTERS.
Actually, I just had my Dr prescribe this for me as a second preventative over my Covid vaccine - she said it isn’t harmful but isn’t sure how helpful yet. So, I got it! My trip is in 3 weeks and instructions say to use it twice a day every day - so will do so just before outbound plane trip.
CVS gave me the Pfizer shot 11 days ago and I’m 69.
I do find it very, very odd that no Drs offices have the vaccine? Why not? I also got my Pfizer Covid (new) vaccine 11 days ago without a prescription from the Dr - just filled out the form online and made the appointment. I do, however, have original Medicare with Supplement G through Aetna which owns CVS (or vice-versa), wonder if that is why they did not need a prescription. No charge.
