Any idea when this will be released?

Ummm… summer spike seems to be starting early. https://www.sfgate.com/bayarea/article/covid-california-san-francisco-wastewater-19509336.php

S1 has been Covid-free 4.5 years and just got it. His GF got it, also for the first time, after he came home. His exposure was on a flight from Berlin to SFO. (We know this because he saw S2 and DIL in Berlin and neither have shown any symptoms. Is now on Day 15 with a wicked cough. Was supposed to go to NH for a huge LARP this weekend, but has to sit out. She has already cleared negative and went on the trip.

Our county is MD is in the yellow zone with a big increase in recent cases.

All of us got it on the flight from Frankfurt to SFO, on Saturday!
Symptoms started with a sore throat, runny nose and now severe body pain and exhaustion.

In my county, COVID hospitalizations are on the rise after hitting bottom in May.

I tested positive for Covid for the second time this past Easter. Fortunately, it was a mild case that lasted a week - a couple of days shorter than my first time.

Hearing of many cases. We just flew east to west coast and back again. I was one of the very few wearing a mask in the airport and on the plane. So far we are OK.

Do you wear your mask on the plane when in flight or just in the airport and when boarding/deplaning?

I wear a mask at all time except when we are in the air. I would wear a mask going to a bathroom.

We wear masks when indoors in public except while eating or drinking. It seems to be a pretty decent strategy for us. We were at a conference with about 10,000 mds and stayed healthy. We also squirt our nose with Enovid after exposures.

Airplanes generally have good ventilation.

However, if you are seated next to someone breathing virus, the airplane ventilation may not be enough to keep the virus away from you. Aiming the air jet in front of your face and wearing an N95 mask may help in this case.

I always mask on planes for the entire flight.

At the hospital outpatient wing for my colonoscopy on Tuesday - no other patients in masks and almost no medical personnel. I wore mine except during the procedure itself - still haven’t caught anything as far as I know. I was chatting with the RN in charge of the patient prep area and she said she’s had COVID three times - none of them from work and only once from family gatherings.

I wore mine during the flight as well as in line and in other crowded areas of the airport. Even if the ventilation is good, as ucbalumnus said, if the person next to you or nearby has covid or other infection and you are seated close together for more than 5 hours, the viral load may still be sufficient for infection. While the chances may be low, seemed easy enough to mask. I took it off while eating and occasionally to say something to the semi-famous actor that happened to be sitting next to me (in economy)!! But otherwise kept it on.

That being said, I was at an event in a restaurant and then in close quarters at someone’s home and I did not mask. Both my friend and I (but not our spouses) definitely thought that if someone there had covid, there was a high likelihood of infection.

Ditto!

I mostly use Halyard Fluishield masks. When I went to the urgent care a month ago wearing one of those masks, the nurse commented that it was a good choice. All staff at the clinic was masked up. The doctors and nurses almost all double-masked.

Most of the time, I wear Masklab KF series. I will switch to a BYD N-95 on a plane.

Is the Halyard Fluishield masks an N95? Do we even need N95s? I have a medical procedure at a hospital coming up next week and I was a little worried about going into it without a mask.

I wear N95. I was a bit more relaxed right after I had Covid recently. Now 2 months out, I am masked up again when taking public transportation.

No, it is a surgical mask, but very sturdy and multi-layer.

I’m probably wrong but I tend to feel that either I wear an N95 or nothing.

I wear my mask at the airport at least when we are in lines and on the plane until I get uncomfortable on the NYC subway and usually on the commuter rail.

IMO, since neither mask offers 100% protection, the best mask is a well-fitted one and the one you can comfortably wear for hours on end. I don’t find N-95 very comfortable, so this is the second best.
