Who here has not gotten COVID? Who has long COVID?

They used to sell earloop adjuster buckles but I don’t see them on the website anymore.

I use the lutema masks, and have a clip thing (looks like a garter belt hook!) that holds the elastic pieces so it does around my head (under my hair) instead of behind my ears.

I also like the Masklab ones and either tie the ear loops or use the adjuster. They’re very easy to breathe through and have worn them with no issues on long flights. Their website didn’t seem to have as wide a selection of patterns though when I looked today.

Both RNC and DNC are huge Covid spreaders. Seeing all of those packed people…

They used to have retail stores in Asia. I believe they are all closed now. That might be why they have a smaller selection.

I have K95’s from Project N95, which stopped operating maybe 6 months ago. I bought quite a few packs and wonder if they expire/degrade in the package. Is there a time limit for using them?

My daughter’s housemate’s guest tested positive yesterday. My daughter was coming up to help me with something important.

I landed in the hospital with COVID. Paxlovid and/or COVID affected my heart. The scary thing was they could not find a way to treat me. Steroids and albuterol affect my heart and I have blood pressure too low to administer heart drugs. So yeah, I am still masking.

COVID seems to have changed my life long term. I live alone and am less active outside my home. I keep hoping that it will become less and less of a threat so I can go back to what was once normalcy.

I imagine there is no degradation as long as they are not stored in an extreme environment. In a climate controlled area they should be fine for quite a while.

I have boxes of older 3M N95 masks and the elastic bands shrink over time. They become too tight to wear.

Newest “booster” was just approved. https://www.washingtonpost.com/health/2024/08/22/new-coronavirus-vaccine-covid/

FDA announcement: COVID-19 Vaccines for 2024-2025 | FDA

MRNA vaccines from Moderna and Pfizer are listed. Protein subunit vaccine from Novavax is not listed in today’s announcement.

That is so annoying.

The Novavax is coming a little later.

There is a lot of COVID around here right now!

Trying to decide whether to take shot now or for holidays. When I had it last November the hospitals were overrune, another reason to time it for a bit later.

A week after my dad went in the hospital, my uncle did, also (different city in Texas). He has advanced prostate cancer and was admitted due to very low hemoglobin. He had intestinal bleeding. A few days into his stay, my aunt contracted COVID. Last night, my uncle went home to his wife! What the heck? He said she sanitized the doorknobs and is staying in a different part of the house, but “of course it’s impossible not to see each other.” Argh. I just bite my tongue and say nothing.

It’s possible that your uncle is well aware of the risks, but has chosen to live what is left of his life on his own terms. Perhaps the comfort of being in his own home with his loved one is what is most important to him right now.

Just FYI - according to the website, CVS now has the updated vaccines. I scheduled an appointment for Thursday evening. We head to Europe in a little over 2 weeks. I didn’t think they’d be ready in time, but I am glad they are. I don’t know how much they help, but even if they help a little, I’ll take it. At least it will be fresh in our systems.

We head to Canada in a couple of weeks, and we also made appointments for Thursday at CVS! We will hold off on our flu shots until October, as recommended by our physicians.

Us too! I don’t want the flu that early. I try to hold out as late in October as I can. I would do it early November, but I usually cave and chicken out by then. Dec-early mar is our typical flu season

I also have mine scheduled at CVS for later this week in advance of a destination wedding. My insurance covers CVS, but my husband’s insurance does not even though they cover every other pharmacy. So far, nobody else has the new vaccine. If no one else has the vaccine in time, he will either have to travel without or pay out of pocket.

DH and I were just discussing. We have get togethers at the Cape in September and travel to Europe in October so we’ll probably get it end of this week or early next week. It’s been over a year since I last had Covid and longer for my husband, who never caught it from me even though he was at the same reunion I was where I got it and was in a vacation house with me afterwards where the ability to separate is pretty much non-existent. (But we were outside or on screen porches much of the day.)
