Seems like CVS is using its temporary monopoly on the 2024-2025 version to charge significantly higher prices than other pharmacies are charging for self-pay on COVID-19 vaccines. (Or maybe they are just normally more expensive.)
Looks like Walgreens is accepting 2024-2025 COVID-19 vaccine appointments starting 9/6. Costco and Walmart do not appear to have the new vaccines yet.
DHās insurance has never allowed him to go to CVS for any vaccine since long before COVID. Itās strange because that is where he goes for prescriptions with no issues.
Since I had Covid about a month ago, I can wait. I probably will get the flu shot when itās available. My wonderful independent pharmacist hasnāt been supplied with Covid vaccine for years (only the chains had it last year and the year before) but he does get the flu shots. No RSV or shingles eitherāI had already gotten shingles and went to RiteAid for RSV last year.
So young person on first day felt ill and about 12 hours later had fever and took test that was positive and has isolated. Now day 3 feels better but tired, what is the protocol? Every time I read the CDC I get confused.
Riteaide has it Sept 3,H and I have an appointment.
FYI
I am not the CDC but if there is no fever, if they need to be out in public, Iād wear a mask for a few days and if no additional symptoms appear call it good. Sort of depends what and where they need/want to be.
I found the CDC list and break down. Not sure how I missed it. They also said no fever and feeling better, then 5 days with mask. Also said to take test if you want to see how much one is still infective to others. Didnāt know that.
I got the last covid shot in February at a small independent pharmacy. And the one just before that. So maybe this was just true in some areas
Not what the CDC says, but if they have a supply of tests, test each day that they are considering going someplace where they may expose others, and then donāt go there if still positive.
Some small pharmacies may not have high enough volume so that once they open a 10 dose vial, they end up wasting 9 doses, so they do not order any (especially in 2023 to now when they took the financial risk of unused or wasted doses).
Some small pharmacies may not have the super freezers.
I just read an article that indicated people arenāt testing so they donāt have to follow any guidance. Basically most people treat COVID like a cold.
I am the only one in sight at the grocery store who is wearing a mask. COVID landed me in the hospital. Paxlovid affected my heart, I canāt take albuterol or steroids, so it is hard to treat me. I definitely feel a bit left behind but at the same time am happy my kids are back to a more normal life. They test before visiting and if the visit is over a few days, test each day.
If they even notice that they have somethingā¦
For many people COVID-19 is basically a cold in its effects, but it is still dangerous for a non-trivial subset of people. Also, most people in the US do not keep a stockpile of COVID-19 tests (at $8 each in the US, versus 1⬠in Europe), and they may have used up the free ones already (or the liquid has gone bad by now). Obviously, this is a problem for those for whom COVID-19 is still dangerous for.
While still high, waste water data in California seems to have plateaued or is starting to drop in some counties.
Walgreens has Pfizer available now. Moderna will be available 9/6.
CVS sent me an email that new 2024/2025 Covid vaccine is available. We are traveling to Europe next week, and Iām considering it.
Husband is leery because at physical a few weeks ago PCP seemed unaware of anything new coming near term. Worried that CVS might just be drumming up business. Glad to read other pharmacies also have it. Still undecided thought since if not traveling Iād wait longer into the fall. Iād have to drive 20 miles to a CVS that has dosages available, but it might give me peace of mind.
We are traveling overseas in 3 weeks so got the new Covid vaccine today.
Iāll ask my doctor at my Friday check up. Iāll be flying to visit son in mid-September - last booster was in October 2023, but Iāve never caught COVID as far as I know. And I went to Comic-Con so donāt think anything will be more crowded than that exhibit floor! I did mask most of the time inside, as I will when traveling.
It would be nice to be freshly protected for the trip, but I may wait until closer to the High Holidays in October. And the winter.
Too bad they didnāt come up with a combo COVID/flu shot, but likely thought that would scare off the traditionalists who get the flu shot every year but donāt want to be protected from COVID.
