thank you. I had it last year, and definitely lower side effects. (Wasnt’ even sure I had received a vax vs a placebo!)
However, this year’s Novavax is based on JN.1, not its slightly newer descendant KP.2. Whether that makes a significant difference in immune response to currently circulating variants remains to be seen (at the time the FDA changed to recommending KP.2, it was the dominant variant).
The Novavax protein subunit vaccine is slower to manufacture than the mRNA vaccines, so changing the target needs greater lead time.
Mr. B and I got Pfizered yesterday. Just a sore arm and some sleepiness. Our Costco had all three Covid shots; we picked the one we’ve had experience with.
Hopefully good progress on a treatment option.
Interesting. Thanks for sharing. Some local folks contributed to the research…
If this therapeutic antibody or its variant can be commercialized (not all antibodies can be for various reasons), it will still most likely be formulated for IV delivery, so will be reserved for the most vulnerable population. Still good.
Or if a vaccine can be made to stimulate production of those antibodies and memory B cells for them, that may be better than the annual or more frequent chasing of variants that we do now
I don’t know how to search for this information so maybe someone here can help. I’m hearing so much about how people aren’t showing up as positive on COVID tests until they’ve had symptoms for 3-5 days. We also were told that if you were positive you were contagious. Does that mean people are less likely to be contagious prior to symptoms with these new variants? That would be so helpful!
I just tested, using BinaxNOW. After one day of symptoms, I am negative, but Binax says to test again in two days. Apparently they feel they can catch most cases in three days.
Most people have had prior infection, vaccine, or both by now, which may cause them to have a symptomatic immune response before testing positive, unlike in the early days when it was common for the virus to replicate before one’s COVID-19-naive immune system would react.
Rapid antigen tests tend to approximate contagiousness.
My anecdotal data from last week - symptoms began Saturday evening, tested Monday evening negative, tested Wednesday morning positive with very dark line, tested Sunday morning positive with faint line, tested Monday evening negative.
Symptoms were worst Tuesday-Thursday.
I only had 4 test so spread them out. Husband began symptoms about three days before me and did test positive on Monday evening. That was the only time he tested.
How trustable are expired Covid tests?
I think if the Control reacts then they should be pretty reliable.
Not at all reliable if the Control does not react, regardless of expiration date.
I think I read somewhere that the government was sending out four more free COVID tests to every household…starting about now.
Also, the expiration dates on most boxes have been pushed to later dates…so check that too.
I started feeling funny in my throat on Thurs, 9/5 but thought it was seasonal allergies. I often have it when I did not take a nightly allergy med in the fall or the spring.
9/6, the funny feeling in my throat did not go away after allergy med theprevious night.
9/7 a sore throat and a headache started.
9/8 the symptoms have persisted. Decided to test myself twice. Positive on both trials.
Started quarantine. Taken Tylenol for a headache and stayed hydrated with a lot of water.
9/9 Contacted my PCP’s office. My PCP called me. If I wanted Paxlovid, I needed to get it by that day, 9/9, because it is allowed to be given within 5 days of when symptoms started (9/5). I was not aware of this before.
My PCP said Paxlovid only shortens symptoms by about a day. However, it could backfire and prolong Covid after that. She suggested I let my body heal naturally.
I listened to her. More Tylernol and water. I have been bored out of my mind.
Sore throat, headaches and coughing are the 3 most pronounced symptoms I have been suffering.
Coming “at the end of September.”
I agree with your PCP. My H had Covid earlier in August and took Paxlovid. He no sooner had recovered and tested negative than he started showing symptoms again and tested positive again .
And to add insult to injury, we were charged $600 for the Paxlovid. The charge came directly out of our Aetna health fund so we had no copay at the drugstore. My H wouldn’t have picked up the Rx if he had known the price.
H flew from ATL to BWI via CLE on Sunday. Tested positive Tuesday night. The rest of us drove instead of flying. Got a text from Costco 12 hrs ago that they now have the new vax. So, he’s in the basement and eating in our office. I’m masking. S2 and DIL are also here, but not masking. S2 had Covid about a month ago, and plan to get the new vax while they are in the US.
Your husband and son may want to defer getting the new vaccine until 4-6 months after they had an infection, since the vaccine may be “wasted” while their antibodies are still high from recent infection with probably a very similar variant.
4-6 months? I’ve heard 3 months.
