I was wondering - what kind of student would be a good fit at Northern Illinois University?

How is it different from Illinois State? Or from University of Illinois at Chicago? Or College of Dupage?

More residential than UIC. Most like ISU I’d say but probably more kids from Chicago at NIU.

Thanks. Anything besides geography that makes a student a good fit for NIU? Any well known academic programs? Any specific personality traits (driven/lazy, smart/average, athletic/geeky)?

Business is the best. Comm Arts and engineering are good. Education school is good. Liberal arts mixed bag. Dekalb is a smallish town and many go home on weekends except maybe when the very good football team is home. Typ student could not get into UIUC but does not want to go OOS to Iowa or the like. Most are average and not that driven except in business/accting and engineering.

Very helpful. Thank you. Just out of curiosity, how do you know so much about the school? Did you attend? Live in the area?

A good friend attended (Comm major) and I lived in Dekalb for a few months before going to UW Madison when my cousin worked for NIU… So I got a pretty good feel for it.
