Who is most likely to get in?

Out of the following, who is most likely of getting in?

A) Vietnamese female, middle class
3.8 GPA
Interests: TV Productions (3 years), writing (some published work), drawing, passion lies in culture, media, and social history
ECs: Clubs Editor/Layout Editor of newspaper (9/10), President of Video Club, President and founder of some society, VP of NHS (2 years), producing/editing on TV show, Captain of Relay for Life team, members of other clubs
SATs: 700 CR/700 M/760 W
Weak points: no sports, only 3 years of language (Latin, but in Junior Classical League), 3 years of honors science (the “science trinity”–chem, bio, phys), one “F” in PE to make up (that is already calculated into GPA)
Plus: bilingual, volunteering in Vietnam (family independently sponsored) every four years, took Cal State U. courses in 7th grade for Chem and Cultural Anthropology, parents are non-college refugees, Proclamation from a small city for excellence in history
SAT IIs: 750 World History, 630 M II, 670 Lit

B) White male, middle class
4.0 GPA
Interests: piano (only local, for 3 years), writing (nothing published, but writes well)
ECs: President of one service club, VP of some society, MUN (1 year), NHS member (1 year), Captain of Jeopardy-game thing, members of other clubs
SATs: 620 M/750 CR/760 W
Weak points: nearly no ECs in 9/10, only 2 years Spanish, 3 years science (one AP bio, one bio h and chem h)
Plus: more awards (student of the month/straight A’s, etc), mother is a single, non-college parent, although played piano for short while, plays piano well
SAT IIs: 550 M II, 770 US History, 720 Lit

Both: no sports, total of 9 APs taken (same ones, except A takes AP Gov whereas B takes AP Bio), A has a few more honors

A plans to major in linguistics
B plans to major in political science

A. But, in the end, it’s all about how you present yourself on the application.

A)

…

ehhhhh A…

can’t say b/c it’s all about how u “show it” so things that r “apparent” aren’t necessarily “real.”

can’t tell. u have to do everything holistically.

i hope the white guy gets in.

Both are mediocre. Rejection at Yale.

It is pretty much complete in comprehensiveness. A has lower grades, but more ECs. B has higher grades, less ECs, but heavily dedicated to ECs. B was voted “Most Studious.” A, on the other hand, hardly studies. The essays are going to be on the same level, but completely divergent topics, although both, IMO, are unique. Interviews are probably going to be on the same level, except B is a bit more eloquent in person.

B’s AP scores: 5, 5, 5, 5, 4.
A’s AP scores: 5, 5, 4, 4, 3.

A works in the summer, B keeps a steadier job.
A is more dreamy, B is more practical. But A isn’t just a dreamer, and B isn’t just practical. B will have more recommendations.

brady00n, that’s most likely (like, 99% likely), but B thinks it’s like 75% for him to get in.

What point does this thread serve? We, teenagers, are arguing over the likelihood of acceptance of HYPOTHETICAL students. I think that if December 16th doesn’t get here soon, we’re all going to go crazy.

hillier, too late. Some people on CC are already definitely crazy.

akk what about us juniors?

Haha. 007 represent.

I thought they were two people the OP actually knows?

both rejected

I think the OP was asking for a comparison strictly between candidates A and B, not within the entire applicant pool.

theoneo, you are right.

concurr’d both reject

Juniors…007 rox!

Anyway, I get the impression from reading the bios that the OP is A, and knows B. This is because the activities in A are much more explicitly explained, but in B the OP mentions “VP of some club”, etc, which can hardly sound impressive due to his/her diction. Therefore I think the OP is trying to fish for people to say A. I’ve seen a bunch of people ask a similar question and do the same thing (portray themselves in a better light than their peers). If this is untrue (which it very well may be) then I apologize.

Edit: I was wrong…I didn’t read “A” well enough, and they both say “some club” so in effect my entire above paragraph is wrong, and it really was a hypothetical situation. But some people do fish for compliments using these scenarios.

By the way, I picked A for these reasons:
-more defined and interesting interests
-ec’s more relevant to interests
-more leadership
-higher SAT score
-first-generation college student (although B is too)
-more challenging courses

How on earth do you fail PE? You just have to show up and jump when the coach says ‘jump.’ At least in my school :)
