Who is this Obama you all are talking about?

Mini, my true best wishes for your brother and your family, I cannot begin to fathom what your family has endured.

My point was that an illegal immigrant with no insurance, no legal obligation has shattered a family’s life. The immigration issue needs to be addressed. This family has no recourse, there is no financial lawsuit, no criminal action, nothing except…he was sent back to Mexico, (and come back in b/c are borders are not controlled enough) I don’t see a true viable solution with Barack and what I see is alot of is rhetoric

bulletandpima,
If you don’t mind sharing, who does offer a viable solution to the situation above, in your opinion?

Honestly, No one and that is what frightens me.

This is why I say convince me, I am willing, but reading through Obamas positions doesn’t give me warm fuzzy feelings:

Bring People Out of the Shadows

Obama supports a system that allows undocumented immigrants who are in good standing to pay a fine, learn English, and go to the back of the line for the opportunity to become citizens.

(the illegal immigrant who gave his uninsured car to another illegal immigrant with no license who tried to flee the scene, is an example)

Work with Mexico

Obama believes we need to do more to promote economic development in Mexico to decrease illegal immigration.

(I seem to recall that we have financially bailed out Mexico many times, how many more times do we give financial support?)

Immigration is only 1 topic, I need more than what has been offered.

Actually, just providing reparations for NAFTA, and restoring the land to the millions kicked off of it as a result (thank you, Al Gore), would be an excellent start.

“My point was that an illegal immigrant with no insurance, no legal obligation has shattered a family’s life. The immigration issue needs to be addressed. This family has no recourse, there is no financial lawsuit, no criminal action, nothing except…he was sent back to Mexico, (and come back in b/c are borders are not controlled enough)”

That is far, far more than my family got from a lily-white Caucasian citizen cab driver employed by a lily-white Caucausian citizen cab company owner, and a lily-white Caucasian citizen judge. So I still don’t get your point. Under Obama’s plan, my family would have benefited greatly regardless of the driver.

mini,

I am sorry you don’t get my point, I am sorry for your pain, but how does Obamas immigration plan help you…I am now missing the point, I thought we were talking about illegal immigration.

This family got nothing, no financial payment, nobody going to jail, nothing and as I read your post the same as your family. I do not know why your family did not receive any vindication for the accident, but you can at least sue in a civil suit, they can’t.

I truly wish the best in this situation for your family, but I am not sure how I can state any clearer that a family’s life was ruined due to an action of an illegal immigrant.

Please explain to me how your family would benefit under Obama’s immigration plan, since it was a “LILY WHITE CAUCASIAN CAB DRIVER, LILY WHITE CAB COMPANY, LILY WHITE JUDGE”

America’s illegal immigration problem is an extremely complex issue with NO easy, sound bite answers. And there is NO perfect answer, so if we are to wait for one before taking any action at all, we will surely be waiting for a long time into the future, even as circumstances grow more dire. The government’s failure to pass a comprehensive immigration bill this past year was a frustrating disappointment. It truly is past time to honestly address this issue and DO SOMETHING other than b*tch and moan. Many of the ideas expressed by Obama have been suggested before, but have been shot down by those who refuse to see the need for compromise. If you have a better idea (one that will actually work to better secure our borders AND work economically), Bulletandpima, I’d love to hear it.

I am not running for pres., but here are my thoughtd:

Follow Tommy Thompson’s belief have the Iraqi people vote should we stay or go… if they say leave, then let’s go! This funding can immediately be placed to securing our borders

Build a flipping fence and say to Mexico, if you keep handing out pamphlets and water we will no longer financially support you…we treat Mexico with kid gloves. (Of course this is not realistic, the economy is global, but I would love to see a candidate say it)

Follow Ron Paul, you don’t get to stay just b/c you gave birth.

Penalize the owners, HR directors for hiring multiple people with the same ss#…they should be fined and go to jail…fraud… Find an HR director willing to go to jail would be unique

We are also missing the fact that immigration is tied to the big pic…economy (live in NoVA and you will see day laborers at the corners), MS13 has an effect on our penal system illegal immigrants have a large financial burden on our health care (baby now qualifies for WIC, Mom quals for welfare/medicaid) Think about how they will effect Nationalized Health (lived in the UK, I will absolutely, positively vote agains any candidate who would promote NHS) .
Many immig. send funds to their family thus we have less funds in our system.

Since I have placed my views …explain to me what should we do…maybe we can vote for someone the CC to be a 3rd party candidate

The whole fence thing is BS. Sorry, it won’t work. I bet only a few, if any of you, have ever been near the border. I live here. I walk out of my house and go south on the road for about 10 miles and I’m in Mexico.
Let me tell you, a fence won’t work… because guess what? People JUMP FENCES. It’s not that freakin’ hard. We build a tall fence? They bring a ladder. Don’t underestimate the Mexicans, they are pretty ingenuous people regardless of the stereotype. They have brains just like you.

My point is, the fence won’t work. Plain and simple. Do you know how much it would cost to build a fence tall enough and secure enough to keep people out? And who do you think is going to build such fence? And can such fence not be penetrated by, oh I don’t know, digging a hole under it or blowing a hole in it? Unless we monitor it with 24/7 surveillance (BIG $$$) or make it ultra high-tech (BIG $$$), the fence idea won’t work.

If you want to keep illegals out, I think a few things would help:

Tougher penalties. No amnesty. If you get caught, you lose the chance to ever be legal. 2nd offense gets you prison time, and no free meals - you work for your food.

Increase the size of the border patrol in strategic “sweet spots”, place tougher laws on employers that hire illegals.

Make social services unavailable to illegals.

Yeah, sounds tough, but I think it’d work. I’m not saying we should go that extreme, though… who’s going to pick our crops if not the illegals, after all?
