I've just spent about 20 minutes searching Google Images, and I can't figure it out. Give us some more clues. What are you comparing Russia to? What timeframe are you studying -- current, or historical? If we have good guesses, we can enter those names in Google Images and up pops some photos of the person.

The fellow has a kindly expression, with a slight smile, so I don't think he has been a Russian leader. (Aren't they all frowny??) From his face, it seems to me he could be Jewish, or Italian, and definitely 20th century, and definitely not a military figure.

Let's brainstorm.

This is all I know:

The picture on the Edline page

Five point bonus: Who is the man pictured on my Edline page?

I will say nothing during the test. Just write it on bottom of the first page.

(Edline is a website where teachers can upload assignments, test dates etc)

The course is AP Comparative Government. The teacher is a PhD in history, so he always focuses on the historical context of the country we are studying at the moment. Most likely it is a 20th century figure, and he indeed has a smile. Perhaps he is from the 90's ? I really don't know

Looks like my grandpa

sorry I couldn't help

I would suggest you look through your textbook...that's most likely where he got the picture.

The only picture of a guy for Russia is Boris Yeltsin, and I don't think that is him. I use Monte Palmer's Comparative Politics, and it only has about a total of 3 or 4 pictures for Russia. Any other ideas ?

Well, I asked in another forum and someone said Mikhail Gorbachev. It might be, but the picture I posted seems to depict an older guy, without that "stain" on his forehead. What do you guys think ?

I think it is Gorbachev. This picture looks pretty similar to the one that you posted.
