who is worse, me or my roommate?

Soon after I first met my roommate last year we realized that we were in the same biochem class. As a gesture if not of kindness then of something else my roommate told me that he was very good at biochemistry and that I shouldn’t hesitate to ask him for help.

I honestly believe that my roommate had the best intentions and wasn’t being sarcastic when he offered me help and might not have realized that he might have been perceived as trying to position himself above me, but am I the only one who thinks that anyone who announces that he is very good at something and is willing to help a peer whom he has no idea how good or bad he is at the same subject has his head up his ***?

Who needs more help, my roommate for his attitude or me for not appreciating his gesture of “kindness”?

PS: Guess who did better in the class?

i guess it totally depends on how he said that (like condescendingly or not) from reading your post, he sounded like he was trying to be helpful.

but thats my opinion

It sounds like a kind gesture from your roomie. Of course without having actually heard him it’s pretty hard to discern the tone of his voice.

Ummm, really depends on the context/the tone/how he acts as a person BESIDES that one sentence at the beginning of the year. Like I see your point, and I don’t think it’s a totally crazy one, but at the same time, it was just one sentence at a time when roommate-roommate interaction can still be awkward. Really. What is he like besides that?

The fact that you are still thinking about this, however, bodes badly for one of you :stuck_out_tongue: 'Cuz either a. you’re a little psycho to still be thinking about it or b. he does things that MAKE you think about it…? Though you did not indicate the latter from the post. So I’m leaning towards a or ■■■■■. Haha ;).

Dude we are past preschool.

If I were a very good biochemist looking to become friends with my roommate, and we were in the same class, I would probably say the same thing. He’s probably just trying to help. Unless it was condescending, but it seems not.

Unless he said it in a haughty voice I would not have thought to be offended by that comment.

So you believe he was trying to be kind and friendly and help you out and that at the very worst he is guilty of ineptitude, and therefore you think he “has his head up his ***”?

I would much rather be his roommate than yours.

The average person can discern someone’s intentions from a number of cues during conversation; why is it that people on CC seem to lack this skill…?

“So you believe he was trying to be kind and friendly and help you out and that at the very worst he is guilty of ineptitude, and therefore you think he “has his head up his ***”?”

The OP seemed to imply that he ended up doing better in the class than his roommate did. That means that, in retrospect at least, his roommate’s tooting his own horn was unwarranted and that his offer to help was insulting at worst and annoying at best. Unless the OP’s roommate had reason to believe that the OP wasn’t doing well in the class he should have kept his mouth shut.

This guy sounds like he was trying to make a nice gesture. Biochem is typically a difficult class. Many people have trouble. He seems to have known this and just made a comment offering help if you so needed it.

The only person here that sounds pompous is you by saying “PS: Guess who did better in the class?”

Easily offended much?

He was probably trying to help, and might have poor social skills, at worst. Realize that if he’s a geek, he’s probably very used to being the one of the smartest around, and thinks nothing of it. So he’s offering his services so that you don’t have to ask.

I wonder if the smart*** roommate felt stupid afterwards?

Lol. I guess it’s just me. I don’t know… Who did better? Since you’re upset about this, I have a feeling he did.

It sounds like you are the one with issues, whether he was being condescending or not. If I was in your place, I would have just kept quiet and acted like it was nothing. At the end of the class, when he asked what my final grade was, I’d nonchalantly tell him straight-faced, but silently be smirking ;).

You ran to an internet forum and complained about your roommate offering to help you in a class you had together. You’re worse.

if you even have to ask the question you know the answer

You sound like a real ******bag. No offense. =) I’m sorry for your roommate.

You.
