Who misses their mother's cooking during the school year?

Asking just out of curiosity: for those who live on-campus, do you miss your mother’s cooking when you’re away from home? And, if yes, what is the dish that you miss the most? What makes the particular dish so special to you?

I don’t live on-campus, but the dish that I miss the most throughout the year is a chicken dumpling soup my mother prepares only during the late fall and during the winter. She serves it with various sorts of vegetables, usually celery, onions, and carrots. It’s amazing comfort food!

i miss the Rocky Mountain Oysters

My mom says I’m going to miss “real food.” Rather than actual food, like dinner things, I think I’m going to miss her treats/dessert things most (chocolate cheesecake bars, triple layer bars, homemade chocolate fudge, pinwheel cookies, and many others). As far as other food, I’m going to miss Caribou because my school’s area seems to be more focused on Starbucks, and around here, there’s a Caribou everywhere, like up to 3-4 in one city of decent size (I actually don’t like coffee, but all the other treats they have there). Also, I’m going to miss a certain grocery store chain that’s only in Minnesota (the Lunds/Byerlys chain) that has some really good foods that some other grocery stores (Target, Cub, Rainbow, etc.) don’t have. They had certain brands I like, and they even have a nice restaurant inside it, and we had a bunch of stuff from there catered in for my grad party.

Not gonna lie, I seriously was thinking of that moose-like animal that lives in the tundra … I was like “ew? I didn’t know people really ate that!” Lol, but then I read on and it clicked. I’ve never heard of Caribou (store) so I had to google it.

^Haha, ok I guess there are lots of areas that must not have those stores!!! For anyone else: [Caribou Coffee](http://www.cariboucoffee.com/) I checked the locations, I guess they’re only in 20 states of the 50 US states, but there’s a lot around here. I checked- it says 217 in MN and that’s the highest, and 2nd is Illinois, with only 59, so MN beats all the other states for that by quite a bit, and then there’s a couple states with 20-30, and all others have 15 or less.

My mom knows how to make every traditional Korean dish and… I don’t. So yes, I definitely miss her cooking.

every. single. day. I never appreciated Ghanaian food before I went to college…
I really can’t decide which is my favorite all the food my mom makes is good lol

^Haha, my best friend’s from Ghana.

Yes, yes I do. Then again I also miss having access to her car so I can go buy my own food from wherever I want and as I live in a dorm I also miss the ability to cook my own food.

The only thing I really missed was kaesespaetzle. I do most of the cooking in the house, but she makes that occasionally and it’s to DIE for.

I just miss having food during the semester. On a couple occasions I started getting all teary eyed thinking about an all you can eat buffet. When I got home and went to one it was orgasmic.

omg I also miss being able to cook. senior of high school was when I really got into making my own food. and now I can’t :(

I will def miss my mom’s homemad chile (hotsauce) and enchiladas (my favorite dish everrr!)

My mom used to make this kind of home-made mackaroni and cheese. Now, I’ve been preparing all my own meals for 9 years-- and they have no flavor. i just got a 25 pund box of quinoa. Thats gonna be my new staple.

I more miss the atmosphere of eating with my family then eating my mothers cooking.
(She taught me to cook so, I’ve not been without a homecooked meal)

my mother’s cooking is less than mediocre. And it’s not just me saying it. Even her own mother aka my grandma thinks her cooking sucks, too.

Seeing as my mom doesn’t cook…

I like school food better. Oddly, I eat healthier and eat more.

I definitely miss my family’s cooking. It’s just not the same, even if I make something myself.

Oh, yes! I really miss the fajitas and Spanish rice. Saturday Steak Surprise at the school cafeteria pales in comparison to that.
