Looking for recommendations for a quiet, relaxing getaway in early March. Would prefer somewhere warm with a beach. We’ve just started looking, but most appealing are Turks & Caicos and Saint Kitts & Nevis. Both of us enjoy swimming, snorkeling and sailing. Has anyone been there and could you recommend a preferred resort? Other suggestions are welcomed!
Turks and Caicos is very nice. We stayed at the Alexandra Resort once, and Ocean Club West another time. If you want to be close to “downtown” then Ocean Club West is a great spot. but Alexandra is closer to a great snorkeling spot right off the beach. Stay on Grace Bay if you decide to go there. We’ve been twice, and resisted renting a car both times.
We also really like Grand Cayman. We stay on the quiet “east end.” It’s too quiet for some, but we like it there. You need to rent a car to get around from there. I don’t suggest 7 mile beach, because it’s one resort after another after another, but many people love there also.
Let us know where you wind up picking.
I like to schedule vacations around some kind of event that gives me a reason to go to a place. For example, we might be going to Scottsdale Arizona in January to check out the Barrett Jackson car auction. In February, a bucket list trip to The Firefly Sunset Resort in Hope Town, Abaco, Bahamas, would overlap with a singer/songwriter retreat. I am neither singer nor songwriter, but it would be a fun event to attend and hang out at. Might have to wait until next year.
We both just need our batteries recharged. Badly. We’d often talked of going to Bitter End but that’s not even in the realm of possibility right now. I’m hoping Mr. Sabaray doesn’t find out about the auto auction - he loves watching that on television and I had previously suggested Scottsdale!
@doschicos, do you know what’s available for lodging on St. John right now?
Gallows Point is open. Lots of private villa rentals. The Westin is currently under reconstruction and is scheduled to re-open in January.
There a couple facebook groups you could look at and ask questions from those on the island. News of St. John and Stateside St. Johnians Alliance for Hurricane Irma have very active posters who are helpful to tourists seeking info.
There are lovely small vacation rentals available on St. John. An incredible place to relax and unwind with beautiful swimming and snorkeling. Take a day trip to the BVIs for even more incredible snorkeling. You might be able to find a reasonable flight to St Thomas and you have to ferry over to St John
Grenada! We love the island, the people are lovely, it is very beautiful. They have nice snorkeling sites, sailing. It is not yet a tourist mecca. There are some nice hotels on Grand Anse Beach, and some even more secluded beaches of Petit Anse, Lance Aux Epines or BBC beach. Don’t know your budget- Radisson, Maca Bana are both very different and reasonably priced, (if you hit the lottery, try Spice Island, Calabash or Mt. Cinnamon. haha), there are many self catering places with pools, fantastic views and some close to the beach. There are also small boutique hotels. Follow the trip advisor forum. If you book for Grenada or any of the Islands, we have been using a company that uses the name Only -----, fill in the name of the island. They are a French company and we have booked with them a number of times. Their prices are usually quite a bit less than tour operators or the hotels directly.
