I learned about Lorna’s here, years ago. Happy to know it still exists. Thx
I’ll be the lone dissenter here – to my mind, Lorna’s is nothing special.
I prefer Villa Capri just off Carmel Valley Road in the Souplantation mall.
@LoveTheBard What do you like at Villa Capri? Any gluten free options there? Quite a few more restaurants coming next year to One Paseo (controversial I know) including Urbn pizza and International Smoke.
Their menu says that they have gluten free kale-stuffed ravioli. I would imagine that some of their entrees (salmon, chicken – not but not marsala or piccatta), most of their salads and many of their appetizers are g-f.
I personally like their salmon with pine nuts and raisins, and they used to have a chicken dish that I really liked, but it’s not on the menu anymore. My D was a big fan of their chicken piccatta and their gnocchi.
It’s certainly not the best Italian food I’ve every had (my SIL’s mother has anyone beat on that score, and I’m from NYC, so there is that…). That said, for a local place, it works for us. Their catering is great (saved me when hosting a few large parties and dinners), and I’ve recommended them to others for private dinners and receptions. We also had my D’s Bat Mitzvah lunch there…
I’ve just just found that they are really nice and very easy to work with.
Hello there! How does the weather feel today? I’m hoping cooler than earlier in the week (but hopefully warm in the sun). I’m packing today…can I bring sundresses?
Coast forecast looks like high 60’s low 70’s for the next 4 to 5 days. Lower 60’s at night. We did have a little rain last night here in La Jolla.
Thanks! I did read the forecast. However, can you tell me later on in the day how it actually feels. Does it feel fresh and cool? Does it get toastier in the sun? It says a higher humidity, but that probably means something different there than the Midwest. Can you sit comfortably on the beach in a bathing suit, or does that feel a bit too cool.
@conmama - when the sun is out and it is 70 degrees here you can sit on the beach in a bathing suit. I heard the water temps are 67-70 degrees right now so still pleasant. It feels like a crisp fall morning right now as we had the rain last night. I think you will have sun mixed with clouds for your visit, but it should be a great weekend here.
Thanks @showmom858, that helps!
We are here right now, got in yesterday afternoon. The weather was fabulous, mid 70’s with a light breeze, and not too chilly at all last night.
Spend 4 hours at JRDN bar. We have become Barflys. What a great place, struck up a conversation with another couple that lives in La Jolla, so that was fun.
Walked down to Waterbar! Great recommendation. Very lively, great vibe and pretty inside. Just what we were looking for.
DH out surfing the waves this morning, while I’m in my PJ’s on the balcony drinking coffee and doing my own surfing…on the net.
Welcome to our city! Enjoy everything the city has to offer!
Have a great time. Weather is cooler this weekend so you should be comfortable doing most activities.
@conmama, I was thinking about this thread and wondering if you were here yet. In La Jolla today and tomorrow is an Art and Wine festival. No admission, it’s just on the main drag of La Jolla, Girard Avenue. Lots of great art for sale, a silent auction, as well as a beer and wine garden that may have an admission price. It’s worth an hour or two of strolling around during the day, if you’re in to that type of thing.
I think you just have to buy drinks in the beer and wine garden. At least last year when we saw a friend’s band play there wasn’t an admission.
We actually have reservations at George’s tomorrow for lunch, so I’m excited about the art festival, too. Thanks for the heads up!
Took a walk at the art and wine festival late this afternoon then had a drink and snack in the bar at Eddie V’s. Walked south from La Jolla Cove to the Children’s Pool and it looks like the surf is getting up. @conmama - hope you are having a great time!
Thanks @showmom858 . We had dinner with a couple last night that we met 30 years ago at Sandals Montego Bay Jamaica. We instantly connected and spent the entire week together. They lived in the Bay Area at the time. We tried keeping up for about a year, sending pics and letters, but it was too hard to do that pre internet. So, we just didn’t keep contact until 2 years ago. I found her on FB, we were coincidently coming here for a vacation with friends and met up with them that evening. They live in a spectacular house they built on Coronado a block from the beach. We happen to have a shared anniversary…day and year, our anniversaries were yesterday. They took us to dinner last night at Stake on Coronado! What a ritzy and elegant place!
We basically didn’t do much yesterday but hang around at beach fest. We were still feeling the effects of 4 hours at JRDN. Ha! We are really enjoying our long weekend! Love this place.
Beautiful day yesterday in La Jolla. Spent considerable time at the art fair, gorgeous pieces. Had lunch at Georges, bloody Mary’s were fantastic. Such a lovely view. Shopped some more. Spent 5 hours there. So glad the fair was going on at that time.
Had dinner at Coasterra! Wonderful place, great food a nice skyline view. Leaving today. It was a great 72 hours.
@conmama - you certainly made of most of your visit. I’m glad you and your H enjoyed it. Come back when you can stay longer.
We will definitely be back. We were here 4 nights 2 years ago. We did the old town trolley, so got to see a lot that way. I’ve never made it to Balboa Park yet, so that’s on my to do list.
Again, that artwork was wonderful. I could build a house around some of it!
