Who Puts You Out of Your Misery?

or makes your day?

We know a girl called back to OU and then rejected shortly after. I have now heard of someone learning shortly after an Ithaca audition. And read on here that Univ of Mich usually lets you know yes, no or maybe a couple weeks after the audition. I think I also read that CMU has a tendency to drag it out till May??

I couldn’t find a thread devoted strictly to this. Those who have already been through this, could you give us auditioning 2008/2009 a headsup on which colleges let you know and which ones don’t? It would be great to learn the timing and if a particular college usually does this by phone, email or snail mail.

Thanks in advance!

My d auditioned last year and was notified as follows:

CMU on March 26th

Syracuse on March 9th

Ithaca on April 7th (which is incredibly late because you should be notified by April 1st)

CCM a week after the audition. (If she would have been accepted she most likely would have heard within a couple days of auditioning through e-mail.)

Elon on March 6th

Boston Conservatory on March 26th (although there were some who heard earlier)

Point Park on Nov 21st (about 10 days after the audition)

Penn State around March 15th

Otterbein on March 21st

Emerson on Dec 18th (she auditioned early action)

Hope that helps a little. I think UMich lets you know about 3 weeks after you audition. The wait was definitely the hardest part of the audition process for my daughter and our family! Good luck to you!

Wow- that’s incredibly helpful kaysmom, thanks!! For Penn State, about how long after her audition did she hear? I am curious to know if they sent it to her a couple of weeks after her audition, or if she auditioned many weeks earlier than March 15th.

Kaysmom provided a ton of info!

I will add that if you apply to Elon early action (non-binding), you will hear if you have been accepted by Dec. 5; Point Park actually also cuts people during the day of the audition. Marymount Manhattan lets you know in March and so does Pace University. NYU’s early decision (binding) audition outcome is sent as a “yes” or “no” by December 15 (NYU does not defer ED).

ErWill,

My d auditioned for Penn State at the NY Unifieds on Feb 4th. She was sent some type of deferral letter first about two weeks after saying she was still in the running and then the official letter mid-March. Hope that helps!

Elon defers some people from MT fall auditions until spring, and they hear in the spring with others who have auditioned in Feb. If you apply EA, you will know academically if you are in by 12/20 (may have been earlier this year). MT and academic admission are separate processes at Elon.

Someone above mentioned hearing about Ithaca soon after the audition. I remember in my son’s year that he auditioned for Ithaca first weekend of Dec. and did not hear until close to mid-April - similar to kaysmom’s daughter’s experience. Not a word came from them ahead of that time. We knew many people in the same boat that year with Ithaca. We assume the students were effectively deferred, but we received no communication to that effect from Ithaca. Most students have already made other decisions by that date.

In addition to schools mentioned above, both OCU and Baldwin-Wallace notified fairly promptly after fall auditions.

I just want to thank all of you for your responses. The wealth of information here is amazing!!! I especially am amazed at the parents that are finally through this and have their kids in programs and come back and contribute. I’ll be sure to be one of those someday because already I feel a debt to CC

Many schools also send out their notifications in “batches” even though they have a published notification date. There is often no apparent rhyme or reason to the sequencing of the notices and when you receive your decision can vary without regard to when you auditioned or whether it is an acceptance or rejection. As an illustration, last year my daughter received an acceptance to Syracuse with a scholarship in what appeared to be the third wave, by email, on March 19. In contrast, based on what was posted on this Board, other students who auditioned as much as 3 weeks after she did heard earlier (both acceptances and rejections), some who auditioned earlier heard later, some students received phone calls, others did not. This was not unique to Syracuse and was reported on this Board to be happening with many other schools.

In a couple of months, the “March Madness” will start on this Board as students begin receiving decisions and others who have applied to the same school do not. As reports of acceptances and congratulatory phone calls and emails are posted, there is a strong tendency for many who have heard nothing to assume the worst and for stress levels to soar. Try to resist the urge to leap to conclusions. You never know what the decision is until you receive it and just because someone received a phone call and you did not, just because there was a flurry of acceptances followed by a flurry of rejections, and you have still heard nothing, often means nothing more than that you simply have not come up yet in the administrative process of notification.

FSU will send all of the letters out on the same day and it will be right around March 1st.

In terms of CCM, my daughter auditioned at the NY Unifieds in early Feb. but did not hear about her acceptance for a full month. The explanation for the delay was due to multiple auditions for CCM that month, and they postponed replying for some until later.
Waiting was the toughest part of this process! Good luck to those that wait!

Students who audition for Musical Theatre at JMU will receive a letter from admissions as to whether or not they have been accepted to JMU academically. These letters go out in early January for EA, and by April 1st for RD.

If a student is admitted academically to JMU (s)he will also receive a letter from the Musical Theatre Concentration in the School of Theatre & Dance as to whether (s)he has been admitted to the Musical Theatre Concentration. These letters are send at the same time as the RD admissions letters (even for students who applied to JMU EA).

If a student is not admitted to JMU academically (s)he does not receive a separate letter from the School of Theatre & Dance.
