Who takes care of admissions? (aka. makes the final verdict)

“Reviewed- Decision pending” God I hate these words…they make me want to hurt people.

I’m transferring from another university and apparently its MUCH harder for inter-college transfers than it is for out of CEGEPers. This is beyond sucky seeing as I was accepted last year and declined (no comments). The lady on the phone (only nice phone person I ever got there) said that it may help to write a letter explaining my choice, reason for switching, etc…

So basically nice folks that came up first on google, I have 2 questions:

1- Has writing a support letter ever helped someone get in or switch the decision from a ‘no’ to a ‘yes’? Ever? In the history of time?

2- Does anyone know by who the decision is made? I’m thinking that if I could track down the person responsible (Arts faculty btw) and make my cause it might have a better effect?

2.5- If you don’t know how do you think I could find out? I’m ready to build a tent in front of their office if I have to.

Thanks in advance,

WHEN ARE THEY GOING TO MAKE THE DECISION ALREADY?

I keep bugging the admissions office and they are so vague about when they are going to make decisions … Ive pretty much given up!

Well not exactly the point of the thread but having bugged everyone there dozens of times I think I can answer you. Basically for most programs they’ve already accepted everyone over 3.7 gpa or 30.0 R score; and rejected anyone below 2.0 gpa and 24 R score.

Everyone in the middle gets the dreaded ‘reviewed: decision pending status’. Basically they’re gonna wait until the accepted people confirm or decline their acceptance to see how many places they have left to fill…those will go to the ‘decision pending’ people with the highest grades (3.69…3.68…etc…). The more people decline their acceptance and the closer you are to the cutoff; the higher the chances are you’ll be among those whose ‘reviewed pending’ turns into an acceptance.

So if you’re waiting for a ‘second choice program’ there are more chances that you’ll be accepted as people who have gotten into their 1st choice will reject acceptance into it. However if you’re scrapping the bottom of a highly competitive program (ex. 3.1 gpa and applying to the management faculty) you have very little chances of getting accepted- it’s basically a delayed refusal.

Hope this helps you assess your chances,
