I’ve got two trash cans (SimpleHuman) in the kitchen that have a built-in space for the liners. It’s really easy; the only issue is that I have to buy the bags online (not near a place that sells them).
Who takes the trash: my husband takes it and I do the recycling. We live in a small New England town that has a transfer station. You need to buy a yearly sticker and you have to buy heavy duty trash bags for everything that isn’t recycled. You can buy these from the town and two local stores will have them. Cans, glass, newspapers, cardboard are all recycled in separate areas. There are also places for metal and you can pay to drop off appliances. We also have special times for hazardous waste. In one area there a shed where people leave anything (Take it or Leave it). Some folks spend lots of time looking through all the stuff that people have left. My neighbor says her husband comes back with more stuff than he took to the transfer station.
If you don’t want the hassle of the transfer station you can hire a private hauler. They provide the cans and you have to leave them at the end of your driveway. The haulers come twice a week. The transfer station is open twice a week. The cost of the hauler is about the same as cost of getting a transfer station sticker and buying bags.
