What do you mean Vail?

WOW. Those are the most ridiculous rules I have ever seen. I regard college as a fun learning experience. This college actually takes it all away.

This is like a prison camp…

Pretty much that nobody’s really any more accepting of differences than anyone else.

If the uber religious want a school that agrees with their views, then good for them. I may poke fun at the “making eye babies” thing (I’m totally stealing that, though), but I have friends that go to religious schools that aren’t too far off from these two…and yeah, they’d be completely lost and disgusted at a normal school. And their parents would be having nervous breakdowns every five minutes worrying that their perfect little angels are being corrupted.

it works for some, it doesnt for others!

pugfug better have been kidding. I am not dumb, rich, or a hoe, but I do wear abercrombie. I’m just a typical preppy girl, and I like being that way. Much like the majority of the students who go to this school we are dicussing are; they probably enjoy living this way.

I don’t understand why it is has become acceptable on College Confidential to persistently bash and criticize religiously conservative schools. Personally, I would never attend BJU and I don’t agree with the schools ideological vision. However, if people want an atmosphere where they can engage in prayer groups, abnegate materialistic goods, and watch G-rated movies – I can fully respect their lifestyle choices. However, there is an extreme double-standard on these boards. If I made a thread that bashed the lifestyle choices of homosexuals at NYU, people would be abhorred by such offensive and narrow-minded thinking! Seriously, for all you cooler-than-thou hipsters if you claim tolerance this means respect of all ideological lifestyles and not merely the ones you agree with or the ones that support your agenda.

But what does being religious have to do with having curfew at 10pm?

Also, this students are growing up in a environment that shields them from “real life”. This people cant watch movies, read books about whatever subject or socialize with the outside world. When this people get out of college they wont be able to survive in the real world, most of them at least. This students wont be street smart for ****.

^ Real world? Ha, I see that kind of fanatic people all over the place, I don’t think they’ll ever have problems adapting.

I would say the main difference between Bob Jones and NYU homosexuals is that anyone is allowed to go to NYU regardless of sexual orientation, race etc and rules are generally made to protect students and help them learn, not to control every aspect of their lives and take away their personal freedom. Homosexuality and sexuality in general is forbidden at Bob Jones. Also, homosexuality is not a life style by the way it’s a sexual orientation.

Exactly what college2332 said.

Nicely put, liberal hypocrisy makes me lol.

This was worth re-quoting again because it was so nicely said!

That’s funny, I think that about dumb college kids who do booze, drugs, and sex every other day, but somehow, they manage to make it (for the most part).

I disagree –
http://youtube.com/watch?v=_3YWApRHfL8

college2332- that’s a little different than not allowing a certain group of people on the campus. A homosexual alumnus was threatened with arrest if he ever set foot on the campus. I’m quite certain most colleges have problems with professors who are biased, I know when I took a class at Smith that as a common problem on the campus. It’s not fair but it’s not like conservative/religious students at NYU aren’t allowed to watch whatever they want on TV or read their Bibles or anything.

My only question is, why do you call it “liberal” hypocrisy? There is no political aspect to any of this. They’re just people who are shocked by a school’s policies, and kind of joking around about it. Even the most religious and conservative of my friends would react in the same way as everyone on this thread has, because it is stunning that a place like Bob Jones exists for most people.

Because it is. First its, “We are so tolerant of others beliefs”, then, in the same breath “These schools should be outlawed!” (which I’m fairly sure I’ve heard on another one of these PCC/BJU bashing topics that spawns itself around here).

Hmmm…really? Let’s see:

Seem I was wrong, someone said that in this thread as well…Anyway, I really don’t see many “most religious or conservative” people saying stuff like this.

Let’s continue:

“Because they are conservative, they must be savages”. I see and I understand.

I can think of plenty of conservatives who wouldn’t want to go there, but would they die? What?

…yeah…

If I can’t admit that I haven’t heard this line from a conservative at my Christian school, then…I’m not a man, I say! (it’s a line from Whistle!, cut me some slack). Anyway, seriously, I have heard that before from a conservative Christian at my old high school, so I can (and will) admit that.

And all things considered, this topic was fairly mild in its religion-bashing, the other one ran about 10 or so pages and got a lot worse than this.

Roonil, the university bans homosexuality because its condemned in the bible (and they believe in a strict interpretation). The rest of their belief system largely reflects lifestyle choices (dress code, TV preferences, etc.) and I really don’t see how its hurting anyone. Being lenient would allow a ‘slippery slope’ to emerge which they wish to avoid. They find personal happiness in following the word of God strictly, and while I disagree with them, I can respect their way of life.

Sklog, do a quick search of “Bob Jones” on CC. Anytime someone says they are looking for a non-liberal school, someone posts Bob Jones usually with some “witty” comment insulting the school. BJU is an accredited college and I’m sure you can a fine education from there, but it is constantly mocked because of its regulations.

Live and let live.

Actually, my mother went to Bob Jones University (no lie). It was one of those situations where she applied without visiting and was then told by her parents that THAT was where she was going when she was accepted. So yes, people really do go there…

sux for your mom, but hey, look @ your SN, i guess it did ya some good! haha, it’s funny how years of religious schools do more than anything to turn you into a non-believer.

Wow, get over it, most of the replies have been obviously joking, yet you guys make such a big deal over it.

I cannot name a single “liberal” university that has this level of control over students lives. If you can name one that says “you shall be expelled for listening to Christian music” sure, by all mean you can say that everyone is a “liberal hypocrite” but until then, BJU’s rules are draconian and 1984-ish.

Charisma, the “liberal hypocrite” reference was in regards to the value of tolerance that is often taught in more liberal circles. What the entire thread so far is about is bashing Bob Jones for its policies, judging another belief system. college2332 pointed out the hypocrisy of this action.

fyi: I’m not defending BJU by any means (and I am a practicing Christian). I personally don’t agree with their methods or restrictions, but it is their choice. What should be banned is not the school but the parents that force their kids to go there (against the kid’s will) :D
