who throws food?

do most of the houses at caltech go through the food throwing routine?

i just kinda want to get an idea of which are the food throwers because i don’t think food throwing really appeals to me…

like, for a person that wants to avoid food throwing, there are houses other than avery avaliable right?

Yes. Depending on your definition of food, about half of the houses do not throw food.

And it’s been said before, but remember that everything is taken to an extreme during pre-frosh weekend.

“Depending on your definition of food”?

e.g. do you care about sugar packets? how about napkins? wrapped crackers (for now at least)?

Those sound OK. I was thinking about, say, chicken bones (with no meat left) and stuff that will mess up clothes.

throwing food is, in fact, more of a rarity than a widespread practice. most of the things that are thrown are fairly innocuous

haha, i got hit by a watermellon that i believe may have been previously chewed up…

that was in ruddock, i heard lloyd throws food too. which other houses throw food?

and don’t get me wrong, i enjoyed my stay at ruddock, but the watermellon certainly wasn’t pleasant, but its probably an isolated incident

Sounds delicious.

Yup. That doesn’t happen too often - 99 percent of the time it’s rolls/bread. Though for the first night’s dinner, tater-tots were thrown because garlic bread is pretty nasty.

When I visited Blacker, they only threw rolls and wrapped crackers! (I threw some too haha)

I just asked my son. He said no one threw food during his evening meal at Avery.

there was no food throwing in Page, either!

We only throw rolls in Lloyd.

Food throwing is at its peak during PFW and Rotation and is fairly minor aside from a few House events during the rest of the year. It does happen, though. People uncomfortable with the idea should not discount Houses that throw food based entirely on that fact. Other alternatives are available for dinner, and it is extremely rare that other Houses will put up a fuss if a non-House member shows up for dinner repeatedly. As has been said elsewhere, it’s never a bad thing to get to know more people.

Also, people throw food to have fun, not to be mean to you. If you really don’t like food being thrown at you, you can tell people that, and they will generally try not to.
