I agree with you there. With a new coach and Ryan Anderson, Cal will be unstopable,

This win against UCLA bought him some good will, but he has consistently underachived as a coach and I don’t see why we should settle for being a mediocre team that every couple of years makes the dance and is taken out in the first round. I say we let Tedford coach football and basketball (and track, volleyball, gymnastics, baseball…)

He’s definitely underachieved as a coach.

I bet he’ll pull the PacX championship out of his ass somehow lol

I was seriously thinking Mike Montgomery would be a good fit at Cal. I know he coached at Stanford but he’s got the big time experience we need and I think he could pull some recruits in the future years and build this program to match our excellence in football. what do u guys think?

I would only let braun stay if he wins the pac 10 tourney. that would make my life complete

I’d take Montgomery in a heartbeat. Braun just can’t get it done, yet they keep renewing his contract. As much as I’d love for Cal to win the Pac10 tourney, it might actually hurt the program in the long run because it would validate braun. I’d even take bob thugins at this point. At least he can win (excluding the Cal game this year).

well hopefully the loss to oregon means we get a new coach for next year.

I would say that it wouldn’t be so bad that Cal’s basketball program exhibits mediocre performance on the court as long as the program graduates a decent percentage of its players. But the graduation rate of Cal basketball is pitiful. For example, the NCAA GSR and 4-year ratings (explained below) for Cal men’s basketball are just abysmal. And yes, this was ALL during Braun’s tenure, as he was hired in 1996.

So the basketball team is mediocre both athletically and academically. I think it’s time for a change in coach.

A problem for CAL is the difficulty of the PAC-10. Lets be honest they do not have the talent to consistently be above 8th in the conference. I think they should get rid of Braun if they want improve. They really lack in recruitment, landing 3 star prospects will not get you a Pac-10 title.

Just my prediction for next year:

2007-08

There is no reason that we shouldn’t be able to convince top players to come play at Cal. I’ve heard people say that we can’t get players because they see the mediocre past and want to play for a winner, but with basketball (unlike football) one player can turn around a program (see Leon Powe), so our coaches should be able to convince 4 star types that they can be part of a winning team. As far as Anderson, I can’t really even give Braun credit for him because I think he was a fluke. Nobody thought that he was going to be as good as he is, or else he’d probably be playing somewhere else. Its not like Braun is stealing players from UCLA. He’s getting their rejects. Besides his stellar recruiting class of Powe and Ubaka, Braun hasn’t done much to show that he can get the guys that are in demand. I say we get rid of him.
