Syracuse is my first choice and I was thinking about applying ED. I heard that colleges don’t give out as much financial aid for ED students, but I am competing for an Army ROTC scholarship so should I apply ED anyways? My sister goes to Syracuse and I really don’t want to force my parents to pay 2 Syracuse tuitions if something happens to my ROTC plans!

I’m applying to the arts and sciences/undergrad Maxwell public policy program, and a minor in theatre.

My freshman year was bad, so my cumulative GPA is a 3.5 but if you only include sophomore and junior year (3.6 and 3.8 respectively) I have a 3.7. I’m at a very competitive private school, and the GPA is unweighted.

ACT: 33, countless hours of extracurriculars in theatre, gay rights, AIDS advocacy, music, and summers as a camp counselor at a program for kids with Autism and cognitive impairment, 3 teachers recs (1 math will be OK, 2 english will be great), counselor rec will be great, essays should be nice.

Love the location + communications school…Hope to see you all as my classmates!

When are you guys starting the application process>?

My son is looking in the northeast for a good architecture school. He has alot going for him with activities, sports ,grades, test scores etc…He was also just notified about being a semi’finalist for the national merit schlorship. Could someone give me help finding a school that he might give him some non-need based money. So far he’s interested in Virginia Tech, Syracuse, and Cornell. Does anyone know if any of these give merit money? Thanks for all help.

wow you guys are wow. and here I thought Isyracuse was a target. you all make me sad

tell me if syracuse is a target or a reach please

So yea. my girlfriend had this college as one of her picks. So I’m trying to get accepted here. FYI shes is waaaaaaaaaay smarter than I am. lol

I currently have a SAT score of 1730. Not looking good so far but I plan on retaking. 550 on critical reading and 550 on verbal

For extra curricular activities I have been head of the media committee in church and vacation bible school. JSA member, stock club member, promotions of literary magazine. assisstant director in the school year movie. Also a member of westborough high school film club

In school I’m taking a bunch of science and math classes to raise my GPA [ ap bio, ap stats, honors physics, honors calc] and not one of them have anything to do with Film or television. My GPA using the collegeboard scale, is a 3.3.

As I just said I’m taking a bunch of hard classes and this is a big jump for me. and right now I’m failing AP stats and physics.

I’m trying to major in film production btw. Also i hear syracuse is VERy competitive in film. OMG no!!!isn’t that like bad for me?

NYU, BU, American University, are the only other options. and my gf is applying to brown, NYU, BU, BC, Colombia, Welsley, posibly syracuse. OMG I dont want to lose her! I dont mind as long as we’re in the same city.

mrtagr, I would think that with your son’s national merit status and grades, he’ll definitely qualify for one of several merit awards at Syracuse. I’m not sure of this, the kids on this thread will know, but there’s are $8,000, $16,000 and I think even higher awards which are merit, not need, based.

Your son sounds like a good match for Carnegie Mellon. They have a good architecture program. I heard from friends that there is also merit aid available. I believe CM requires either an SATII in physics or chem. Is he interested in more of a studio (art) intensive program or engineering?

MissSuperFantastic, I have this feeling you should apply to Cornell esp. and Colgate with your grades.

Why? Syracuse’s communications program is better than Cornell’s and Colgates…

^Yeah…I actually visited Cornell when I was in the area. I said I was interested in film, other areas of communications…and the nerdy tour guide looked at me like I had eight heads. Plus everyone else on the tour was either a star football player or Asian, but all wanted to do biomedical something or another. LOL. Also not impressed with the elitism, or lack of emphasis on internships/real world experience. But as far as elitism is concerned Yale was worse…much worse…haha.

lol - true true. have you considered ED NYU film?

And Emerson College - they have some really great film, art programs there
