Who Works / Has Worked In Retail? Need Advice

So i’m thinking of this new surf shop that I’d like to apply and wanted to know as far as applying goes, how does the employer hope you act? you should be greeting with a smile, clean looks, and talk at a moderate pace. Does this suffice? If you worked in retail, specifically in surfer/young audience style clothing, what was the method you used to hire applicants based on speaking with them? Your advice is appreciated.

There isn’t much money in retail. Try getting an internship with an investment banking firm or ad agency - many more opportunities. Good luck!

I know, I just want to do this temporarily because the people seem chill, and it might be a good way to meet new people, plus its real close to my house.

Personally, I say give it a try.

I have worked in retail from all ends, with exception for owner. Working in retail helps you immensely. First, it pays. Pay may not be great, but it pays. Two, networking opportunities are many. A lot of different people surf. When you meet people in retail, be honest, friendly, happy, and build a persona based on the clientele & industry.

Maybe retail ain’t your career option, but the positive lessons you learn there are many.
