Who would have thought having a Felony could be a good thing?

Hello to my old friends- it turns out that my son who did prison time for Marajuana is an asset to his firm! He had a Felony and lives in a city where there is a lot of funding to hire people like himself! He has been working at a dispensary legally and getting a salary with benefits. Remember my daughter who married in Sweden? She had gotten really sick and nobody knew what was wrong. She ended up being seen at the National Institute of Health, and she had latent TB! She volunteers with Syrian refugees in Sweden. That’s where she got it most likely. She is being treated with serious drugs now. She gets daily injections. We are generally doing well as a family, and looking at even buying a small house in Sweden so when we visit I can have plumbing and electricity. I don’t "do " outhouses. My daughter and her husband live by choice off off grid.

Great news for you and your family! Medical mysteries are great when they are solved. My sister lives in Sweden and I wish we could visit more often.

So glad to hear that things have taken a turn for the better! All best wishes to you and your family.

Thanks for that update! Amazing how events that are crises can turn around to create positives. So happy to hear the good news for all of you.

Wow—glad the felony is a positive for your S. There is a lot of drug-resistant TB circulating. In HI, we also have many people who visit from all over and some being Active or latent TB with them. Two of my sisters were treated for TB when we were all kids.

Are you allowed to purchase property in Sweden if you are not a citizen? Some countries don’t allow purchases by non citizens.

Wow, my son works with Syrian refugees in Lebanon. I will warn him to be careful!

Thank you for the update. Makes my day!

Happy to hear updates, thanks.

Thank you for the update!

Great to hear from you and to know your S is thriving.
Sorry about your D…wishing her a quick recovery.

Thanks for that update! I’m so glad your son has turned his life around and that his employers have given him a chance. My brother is also a felon, and has struggled to find work his entire life (of course, it doesn’t help that he continues to have run-ins with the law.)

It’s great that your D found out what was making her so ill. TB is on the rise, but it’s still not something many people expect. A kid in my D’s high school class caught it while visiting family in Kenya, and everyone in their class had to be tested for it. The public health officer called each student at home, and we had to submit paperwork both to D’s college and her high school stating that she was negative.

Not sure, but daughter who is now a resident could hopefully buy it for us. Interesting to think about.

I’m so happy to hear that things are going well for your family, fauxmaven. Thank goodness NIH was able to diagnose your daughter’s illness after so much time and uncertainty.

Apparently we are free to buy in Sweden, but getting a mortgage might be difficult. We wiuld pay cash for a small house.

So good to hear from you @fauxmaven and even better to hear that your family is doing so well.

@MaineLonghorn he should be sure to get a TB vaccine if he hasn’t already. It’s not commonly given in the US.

Hmm, I’m reading between the lines here and I don’t know that you’re saying everything is going wonderfully. But it sounds like you are surviving, adapting, and grateful for anything that is positive. You have suffered more as a parent than anyone should have to, with the hospitalization and prison. At least there are answers finally.

What ever happened between you and your husband?

Everything is very good now. We are both in separate therapy, and its going well.

Glad that things are at least getting better.

Glad to hear that your son is doing OK and that Drs figured out the source of your daughter’s health issues. How’s the MOM doing these days?
