Who would you pick??

I know this is an old question, but I just wanted to see it again considering the race factor ;)

1.

4.95/5 GPA, 2370 SAT
extracurriculars in mock trial, moot court, refugees and aid organizations (research papers on them), fair amount of volunteer work

2. 4.99/5 GPA, 2400 SAT

extracurriculars in essay(grand prize), philosophy, and math competitons, no volunteer work

…and consider the case when they’re both Asian. Who’s more likelier to get accepted in your opinion?? ;)

They are indistinguishable and both will end up in top programs. What is surprising about that? Which one is you?

I’d want them both. If that were impossible I’d want the one who proved him or herself most socially adept in an interview.

T26E4, it might or might not be me, you see
Sue22, what would you mean by socially adept?? The one who seems more friendly??

Depends on their essays because perhaps after reading them I wouldn’t choose either of them.

Oh, for pete’s sake. Depends on the school, depends on the essays, depends on a coin toss.

Socially adept does not equal only “friendly”. How at ease is a person? Can they fit into most social situations? Are they easy to chat with, communicate with? Not awkward.

But frankly, if you need to ask, then you’re in trouble.

T26E4, I know what socially adept means in normal situations, I was asking how you could convey it during your interview, thanks.

Well, in my opinion, for what it’s worth – you don’t convey it, you just are.
