So I’m a big writer, and I’ve won a national award for one of my rather…messed up stories. I wrote one about a child being molested by an adult. It’s very well written and since it’s won a big award, I’m hoping it’s qualified to be sent as an art supplement to Brown.
However, I’m not sure if the admissions people will be uncomfortable/think I’m a creep? I would hope they wouldn’t have that reaction, but I’m not sure.
If any of you guys want to read it (much appreciated) let me know and I’ll PM you.
Thanks so much!

I think it would help your app rather than make it worse. I’ll be happy to read it and tell you based on the context. I’m currently a freshman attending college this fall so I’m relatively fresh with the application process.

I think this is better answered by an Admissions Counsellor. Why don’t you shoot them a message?

I mean, it sounds like a great piece and it’s won an award and all, so it must be good - but you’re often advised to steer away from uncomfortable topics. So, it could go both ways, in my opinion. When in doubt, message the Admissions Board!

After reading the piece it’s very awkward to send one of these types of essays. I would recommend asking a school counselor. Sorry I couldn’t help much!

How do I contact an admissions counsellor?

I’ll read it for sure, but I’m assuming it could only help your app.

Ill read it! And can you specify what award it won?

Thank you nick and mo! I’m PMing you guys now.

can you pm it to me as well?

PM me if you want and I’ll give you another opinion

Thanks all! Did you receive it? It’s directly on the competition website haha.

I’d love to read it. Also I think that it would help your application because you not only won an award, but you wrote about a non conventional topic that most would find difficult to do.

You can find email addresses of someone from the Admissions Office on the Brown website. I think speaking directly with them should be really helpful!

If you have concerns about how admissions will receive it, I’d just mention the award. If they accept writing as an art supplement, than why not give them something else you wrote on a topic that it less risky?

I agree with milkweed…that would be a great way to manage this issue.
