Isn’t a z pack azithromyicin?

I had whooping cough 14 years ago. It was horrible and it took a very long time for the doctors to figure out it was whooping cough. I went to three doctors before they finally figured it out. Of course they did lots of expensive tests for weeks. I found out about 12 weeks after I was infected. They finally did a titer. I was sick for about 5 days with a fever and could hardly breath at one point. It was a like I could breath but it felt like I could not get enough oxygen. Then the weeks of coughing and coughing. The secondary infections were bad too. Sinus infection and double ear infections were bad and it took long time to get better. Left me with asthma for 6 months. I still have asthma from time to time. I am now upset to know that I could get it again. I always thought if you had the disease your had life long immunity.

Anyone who will be around babies, particularly before they receive their first immunizations, should get a pertussis booster. We have had two cases locally in the last few months, from the same small town. The first one was fatal. The last I heard, the second child was in intensive care at the hospital. He came down with it at three weeks of age, which means exposure in the first week of life. I’m sure whoever gave it to him had no idea he/she had it.

If you won’t do it for yourself, do it for them!

we live in Illinois & my son had the Tdap booster but still had whooping cough (S15 so this was his freshman year). Poor kid had it over winter break. Took him to the dr who tested him & when it came back positive, the whole family had to take a z-pack. His horrible, hacking cough lasted until the end of April. By all accounts it bothered me more than it did S15.

According to the dr. the Tdap is only about 85% effective but the real risks are exposure by the very young, the very old & anyone with immune issues. Since S15 had the booster the only reason they tested him was because I specifically mentioned that there were at least 3 or 4 diagnosed cases at his school.

Soare all tetnis boosters bundled with it now days? Because i got mine in 09…

Check your records to see what you actually got.

Td = tetanus and diptheria

Tdap = tetanus, diptheria, and (acellular) pertussis

Tdap became available in the US in 2005.

S needed the tdap to go to college this fall. Glad it came up because until we were at the doc’s office i had no idea it “wore off” from the childhood shot.
