Sorry to be so dense, but that sounds pretty much like psychology to me.

oh sorry free2rhyme :-S

So, how did you guys feel about your common app essay? Not asking for topic/summary, but do you think it was strong, weak, creative, straight forward, etc? What did others say about it?

Creative approach to a rather clich

psychology is just what happens…BBB is the science behind it i guess

@kristina, no, its cool. You obviously know way more about it than me. So you should be the one to share.

@laodicean, I guess you will only be able to distinguish BBB and psych, once you get to Penn and start taking classes.

@free2rhyme: My commonapp essay was nothing spectacular since I’m not that great of a writer, but I thought my message and topic was pretty strong and had some good insights to my personality.

Welcome to all the new posters!
It’s really cool to see so many Penn EDers here! :)

Alsoo I’m getting kind of freaked out about what you guys are saying - do you mean to say that your previous school had to send them your transcript? What if you had a digital version of your transcript which your counselor submitted for you? But the transcript is on your previous school’s letterhead and everything - it’s the real thing, just submitted by your current counselor and not the previous school itself?

Also @free2rhyme: YouTube is for entertainment, I really don’t think they’d outright reject you for not having that (although I still don’t totally get it!) - especially since they didn’t contact you about it - and they said they would!

my commonapp essay was different…i love it i really do but i dont know how penn will react, my aunt, an adcom for barnard, is brutally honest and she loved, but then again she is VERY liberal…i also found a place where a skipped a word :-S…it is about being the captain of the cheerleading squad and being made to be on the debate team… i was sooooo mad and scared of the socail consequences but ended up loving it and being good at it…

I tried to make my Common App Essay more of a thriller/horror story, but when I showed it to my teachers, they started laughing at it. I still don’t know what was so funny about my story. But my message or personal growth portion of the essay was pretty weak.

I didn’t think my essay was so cliche when I submitted it but now I do. It’s about balancing my American and south Asian cultures…

My choir director went crazy over it…asked me to teach the coed choir a south Asian song to perform on the winter concert. My newspaper sponsor said it was ‘very well written’ (whatever that means).

I regret the topic choice somewhat. I blatantly exposed my ORM status. I also feel like others wrote about a similar topic. Oh well…

lol i want someone to read my essay and rip it apart…it is to late now but i know my essay was not that great and seems like noone had the balls to tell me…i hate when people sugar coat

Oh, and do you think it’ll matter if I have a typo in my EC essay? I was devastated when I first noticed it after I submitted, but I’m kinda over it. My essay was 1000 characters but it for some reason cut the last 3 characters out of the essay. The sentence ended up reading “…I will take this with me wherever I (go).” And cut out the word ‘go.’ Do you think they’ll skip over it and ignore it or have a bad impression of me because of carelessness?

I wrote my commonapp essay about my experiences when I first moved to the US. I talked about how all I wanted to do was fit in and be “American” at first but I connected it to how I have “evolved” over the years to accept both my Indian culture and the American culture.

@aangel. Basically I went to 2 different schools in high school. The school I go to now, converted my ninth grade grades from my previous’ school. So Penn just has my last three years’ grades and my freshman year “converted grades”. I guess Penn and Drexel wanted authentic official transcripts from both schools, which i didn’t send. My regional officer did say if they were MISSING anything they would let me know. But I really wasn’t exactly MISSING anything technically (except my previous schools’ official transcript).

@aangel, what you did was fine, I think. My grades were “converted” from one school to the other. So that’s probably what screwed me.

They probably get the gist of your idea QwertyNerd…there’s no use in worrying now.

Qwerty i skipped a word too!!!

free2rhyme…i have heard that students who went to multiple high schools are deferred alot and if they were acceptable accepted RD…

@maani, I don’t get why people don’t mark off Asian when they fill out the application. If your name sounds Asian or Indian, you are most likely an Asian or Indian. The adcoms will figure it out. I personally feel if you don’t mark off you are Asian, they would get the sense that you are ashamed of your nationality/ethnicity or some kind of negative attitude towards your heritage.

What you did was completely fine.

oh great. kristinabrown - you just crushed my selfesteem even more. i went to three high schools…i’m doomed to fail.
