Who's applying ED to Penn?

When you guys say SAT scores don’t depend on any cognitive ability, I’d have to disagree. Maybe at the higher levels, like between 2000-2400 there are a lot of other factors that could affect test scores but a person who takes gifted & AP classes and is clearly smarter would score much better than a person who took CP classes and studied 50 hours.

Sometimes with studying people still have limits :(

guys really would you mind doing a chance me i want to know my peers opinions, without sugarcoatings

I have to agree. The SAT is NOT the best test of aptitude or even intelligence, but it is the only way to compare all applicants across the board, regardless of where they come from and other factors. Yes, anyone can study and improve their score but, unfortunately, an individual’s range is certainly limited as xAlex452 pointed out. The people in my school who scored 2400s may not be our valedictorian, but they are still some of the smartest people I know…

@xAlex, I would agree to an extent. I think there is SOME truth to what you say. AP classes are really a reflection of the student’s work ethic and motivation not intelligence. Those who do take AP courses are usually more academically motivated and therefore usually have higher SAT scores. But I would argue, considering the average SAT is 1500, that for some to be labeled gifted or IQ above 120 can score from anywhere from 1500 to 2400.

@Kristina, I will be honest. Your chances are average; what you lack in test scores, you make up with ECs and personal traits/qualities. But neither are mine or pretty much anyone else’s on this thread (with a few exceptions). Pretty much 8 people from my school ED to Penn. Most have higher stats than me, but I don’t expect any of us to get in. I think it is the luck of the draw. If they “like” you, whether it be your essay, recs, ECs (which are pretty good), they will accept you.

I feel like I’m posting in the midst of an argument haha… /awk

Wharton ED! Fingers crossed fingers crossed.

@free2rhyme, I know plenty of people in AP classes at my school that have absolutely no work ethic or motivation. But they are naturally smart, so they manage to get good grades (sometimes even better than those who DO work hard in school).

@idkysilly, Lol hi, good luck! :)

lol idksilly there is no arguments just last minute frets…i think

Hi guys! I have been stalking this thread for a long time, and you guys are all AMAZING! I am international (Chinese), but I attend high school in Kentucky (yeah, I know…). I applied ED to M&T with SEAS as 2nd choice, and I really hope we all get in our dream school!

@Kristina, I just want to say scores isn’t everything! I know of people who got 35 on their ACT but got rejected by Washington Uni. in St. Louis!

i’m posting this because I don’t want to be logged off.

@Kristina

I think you have a slightly less than average shot. Your ACT scores are just too low but your extracurriculars are excellent and being from a small town with relatively few Penn applicants will really boost your chances SIGNIFICANTLY. Penn always looks at context and if you wrote about yourself and your situation in your essay, you will not be thrown out of consideration just because of your ACT. WIth that said I think it really depends on your essays. If your essays reflect a person Penn wants to admit they’ll admit you. Just that simple. Having seen your personality on this thread I really hope you get in.

Yeah, lets stop the SAT conversation; it will just be pointless at this point.

wow…quite a few internationals living in the u.s.
but how many can be an intl living the us who has moved been to three schools?

Hello, all.

I have a few questions that a) will help me with something and b) will refuel our conversation.

Question 1: What are the highest level of classes at your school called? (besides AP)
Question 2: What is your take of cellphone policies in schools?

For those applying to m&t, do you guys know how many are applying overall? I would guess between 700-800.

@empaige, was your bet 160 pages?

lol agreed free2rhyme and thank you and alex…RANDOM QUESTION…would you rather be the richest, smartest or most attractive person at your high school

if you have a parent that went to Penn for undergrad and grad (and received 6 degrees from Penn) does that count for more than just, say, undergrad?

ohmygodd trackgirl …6?

@kristinabrown1

I feel like were really similar! I also applied to the Biolgical Basis of Behavior major. I struggle to take standardized tests too. The first time I took the SAT I slept only 3 hours because I was so nervous! Don’t worry too much about your scores. They are important, but not as important as they are often made out to be.

@empaige, AP; no cell phone use.

Is this for stat?
