THEY DO NOT DO IT FOR YOU…but they help you breathe a little

I just wanted to show colleges that moving schools doesn’t affect my academic performance or my dedication to EC. It really is annoying when I’m in a club for 9,11,12 but not 10 because of different school offerings.
My current school tried to prevent me from taking some of the APs I wanted to take. The school I went to freshman year barred me from the gifted program and put me into all standards. Those are the weaknesses on my application.

will you guys please tell me how you got the test scores you did…i worked SOOOO hard studying with tutors and on my own and my tests scores are horrendous, its not like i test awful in class…how did you do it

i was told not to put that i was in gifted on my application, should i have

Perseverance. I’m not a genius, but hard work works for me.

I will tell you the secret of most test takers who score successfully (not me), they are completely chill when they take the test. They don’t worry how the test may affect their entire future. They just take it like any other test and thats what I personally believe makes the difference.

I was a complete freak during the test and I always have test anxiety whether it be for the SAT or some small history quiz, so that’s why I didn’t do well. But I know a guy, who literally didn’t study for the SAT got a 2300 and was one of the calmest people I have ever met. Another underachiever, who guessed on half a section ended up with a 2260.

PS. I probably did 30-40 practice tests and stuff and my score was still in 2100s.

I was told not to put gifted as well; it doesn’t really add anything significant to the application.

i really cry every time i think about my scores…i know that it is only one part…but i always feel like so many more doors would be open if i could just do even ok on the ACT

Personally, I think that people should not study for the SATs.
If the test is supposed to measure one’s aptitude, or natural ability to do something (which it does poorly to begin with), then the tricks and secrets to the test should not be released. It dilutes the outcome of the test beyond its inherent superficiality, making it almost completely worthless to its intended purpose. It is truly a measure of 1) how much one studies for it and 2) how much money that person paid for studying materials, tutors, and classes.

free2rhyme you score is what i would aim for…i scored less than a thirty on my ACT…i still consider your score incredibly high

@laodicean, similarly other factors come into play when testing one’s “aptitude” that doesn’t really reflect anything such as family income, surroundings, constant change in environment (i.e. moving), test anxiety, stress, family hardships, etc.

@kristina, I really don’t know much about the ACT or really anything about you. But for me, the main problem was to stress over the test too much. If you too are slightly neurotic, then i think you should also consider my advice just for future testing.

And if you have some extenuating circumstances, they may cover up your “low” score.

laodicean i get so mad when i here people says it is because i am not as smart because of my test scores…i am really ashamed of my test scores

Yes, of course. But socioeconomic status and traumatic events will (and should) show up somewhere else on the application. There is bound to be a strong correlation between those and test scores. Anxiety, in general, is something people will have to deal with for the rest of their lives. They must learn to cope or to overcome this problem. There really shouldn’t be any padding there (I know, I’m being very blunt).

@kristina
I do not believe the SAT measures any significant cognitive ability. Like I said, it’s mainly a measure of how much you studied and how much you paid.

free2rhyme i will most definitely try…i wish the tests didnt exist lol

m&t program

i really hope i get in…

i happened to realize after that i made a mistake in my essay… when i was reveiwing it i put notes in for my self to go back and change… but i didnt realize it and i left it in…

is there no hope for me?

loadocian i really do not fell like my problem is anxiety …i really dont get nervous on test day i just suck at those particular tests…i dont suck at test taking…i mean for christ sake i am taking a biology course at the Kansas University’s School of medicine and have gotten a hundred on every test…i am not sure what it is

SATs are not a good measure of intelligence, period. My IQ was tested in school and using those IQ-SAT score conversion, I would score much higher on the SAT. But I didn’t.

I don’t agree with the anxiety part. I didn’t have this anxiety problem until when I came to high school. Before that I was a really calm person when it came to tests. But I guess, my surroundings/constant moving may have caused that anxiety.

have any of you heard of a white…non athlete, non international, non cancer curing individual getting in…i know this is not the point of this thread…but i can you guys do a chance me lol pleeeeease i am normally against them i just want to know what you guys, my peers, honestly think (no sugar coating)

@kristina, yep scratch my advice. Anxiety is definitely not your problem. I don’t know what to tell you really. One of my friends who is ranked first in his class got a a 1610 on his SATs (I know GPA is a reflection of hard work). But still he was pretty smart ever since I have known him; he had to have gotten some logical skills, critical reading skills, learned grammar and math; so why did he score low? No idea.
