Who's applying ED to Penn?

^ Nope–just checked the page a couple hours after my post #874, above.

They wouldn’t email me–I’m just a lowly alum, not an applicant. :)

It’s about time I join the conversation! I just wanted to state that this thread keeps me from doing my homeworkk just about every day hahah! I don’t think I can wait any longer for decisions.

I just realized that if, by some strange reason, I am admitted, I probably won’t believe it…I’ll need someone to slap me really hard to make sure I’m not dreaming.

I have a question. I was looking at The DP and there have been recent posts about Penn’s need for economic diversity. Does that mean if you are low income (I know Penn is need-blind, but I mentioned it in my essays), that you might have a better shot of being admitted? I know it’s a long shot, but I can’t help but have hope.

As stated earlier, Penn is need-blind. I don’t see how they can make a decision based on a part of the application they don’t see. Unless you’re a questbridge applicant or someone who wrote essays about that economic situation, I don’t see it helping anyone. And certainly, it would be more of a subjective hook if anything (unlike legacy, URM, recruited athletes).

I suppose. I decided not to apply to Questbridge because Penn is my #1, and I didn’t see an advantage in ranking schools. I wanted Penn to know it was my first choice. I also did not apply because I know that Penn would give me the same amount of aid anyway. But I did mention my economic situation in my essay because it does significantly affect my life. I would think it would help me just as much as it would a QuestBridge applicant.

I have yet to summon up the courage to check my decisions page on the 9th. I’ll probably pace around the room for half an hour before I get the guts to even click the button. Then, I’ll cover the screen up with something, and slowly reveal the page inch by inch.

Decision page has been successfully bookmarked. Might even make it my home page.

Random Question: Would albinos be considered URM? Just wondering…

@john4penn
I can’t tell if you’re kidding or not, but albinism is a DISORDER, not an ethnicity.

Penn would definitely want to boast to others if they had one. “Ah yes, we cherish student body diversity more than anything else. Why, there’s even an albino amongst us!”

Hahaha thank god they don’t. That would be horribly exploitative.

Does updating the Penn decisions site mean the adcoms have almost finished deciding? Or will they still be doing so right up till the last minute?

all of you smart people think that you’re not going to get in, but you will!

I can tell from this forum that you’re all accomplished and deserve it, so stop saying you won’t get in! If you don’t, it’s just because they don’t find you a good fit and not because you aren’t ‘qualified’ enough.

Seriously, don’t say you’re not going to get in unless you have evidence of that fact(which none of you have!)

I think they’ll be deciding up to around d-day. I’m almost positive they’re not done yet.

@maani Just prepping myself for the worst :)

yeah always be prepared for the worst. i think it’s better than being overconfident.

Random Q: Anyone else love Colbie Caillat?

Bubbly and Realize are really soothing songs to listen to. I like her voice.

yeah I know
I always follow that theory too (hope for the best but expect the worst)
but seriously you guys are in no position to be so prepared for rejections
you guys have great shots

@laodicean sorry! no way ahaha

Well Penn might ease the blow a little with a defer, which to us overachievers is probably just as bad as a rejection

i find it annoying that Penn didn’t email us about their definite release date but that web page is updated
